RECOGNITION
National Library Week is April 7 - 13!
The theme for National Library Week 2024, “Ready, Set, Library!,” promotes the idea that in our always-online world, libraries give us a green light to something truly special: a place to connect with others, learn new skills, and focus on what matters most. Find your crew at your library’s author talks, workshops, and book clubs.

No matter where you find yourself on the roadmap through life’s journey—enhancing your career, launching a business, or raising a family—your library provides an inclusive and supportive community where everyone belongs.

Get ready to explore, become inspired, and connect with your library this National Library Week. Libraries are there for you, all the way to the finish line.
UPFD recertified as "Recognized Best Practices Fire Department"
Congratulations to the Fire Department for renewing their certification of Best Practices from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association!

The TFCA Best Practices program provides a pathway for fire departments to push their level of service to a status of excellence that is validated by independent experts. This designation certifies that UPFD is among the very best in the Texas fire service. Great job to all those involved!
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is
April 14-20!
Every year during the second week of April, telecommunications personnel in the 911 public safety community are honored. This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public on the other side of the phone.

Now, more than ever, we celebrate our staff in Dispatch. They serve as a vital link to police, fire and medical personnel in the field. They work nights, weekends, holidays and miss many family gatherings to do their job.

Our dispatchers are the calm reassuring voice whenever there is a crisis. We appreciate all that you do!

THE ACORN
By Ann Bray
In a Nutshell
This month Ann Interviewed Director of Public Works, Keegan Littrell.
1. Where did you grow up?
I was born and raised about 10 miles north of Bigfork, MT.

2. Where did you attend High School? College?
I graduated from Bigfork High School, then spent two years at Flathead Valley Community College on a soccer scholarship and studied pre-engineering, then transferred to Montana State University to graduate with my BS in Civil Engineering.

3. Tell us about your family and any hobbies you may have.
My wife and I have been married 14 years and have four children. Boy/girl twins who turn 13 next month, a daughter who turns 11 in two weeks, and an eight year old boy. Growing up, I enjoyed anything outdoors (fishing, skiing, camping) and played almost every sport, but soccer and baseball were my passion. In Henderson, NV, I coached two of our kids’ soccer teams and helped with one other. Our family is also very active in running and the three oldest compete in cross country. Taekwondo also keeps us very busy (my wife and three kids are black belts and our eight year old is about one year away from earning his).

4. How long have you been with the City and in what department?
I have been with the City about six weeks and work in Public Works.
Birthday Greetings
PAIGE'S PALATE
JOEY Dallas
By this point, we all know that I get pretty excited whenever a new restaurant that is based in California makes its way to Dallas. And the trend continues! JOEY Dallas recently opened at the old Season's 52 location in NorthPark, and I have already been there three times since they've opened. They have a great happy hour, a beautiful space and complimentary champagne when you arrive and check in at the restaurant. Even better, the food is delicious, so let's get into it!
JOEY has a pretty expansive menu, and many appetizers to choose from, so each time I've gone I have to order more than one. One of my favorites is the Japanese Gyoza, which are pork dumplings with a hot mustard sauce. They order comes with six dumplings so they are super easy to share, and they are delicious!
Another favorite appetizer of mine at JOEY is the Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps, which are served with a sweet soy ginger glaze, peanuts, crispy wontons, and a spicy aioli sauce. There is some assembly required with this dish, but it is so worth it because they are awesome. The chicken is fried to perfection and the glaze is awesome.
Among the expansive JOEY menu includes a few sushi rolls! I think most people know that I really love sushi - and JOEY does sushi right! My favorite roll on their menu is the Tuna and Avocado Roll, which has tuna, avocado, micro cilantro, tempura crunch, and is topped with chili mayo and a teriyaki glaze. This roll is also on their happy hour menu, so it's a great thing to order if you're just looking for some small bites and apps.
Finally, here we have the Steak & Ravioli. This is one of my favorite entree items at JOEY. The steak is a sliced grilled sirloin, and the dish also includes prawns, and the ravioli includes grana padano cheese and a truffle beurre blanc sauce. The flavors from all of the items really compliment each other, and you get a good amount of food with this entree. You can also just order the Ravioli as an entree item, but if you are wanting some extra protein, I definitely recommend including the steak.
JOEY Dallas is located at 8687 N Central Expy, Suite 307 at NothPark Mall.
