meeting is April 8, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. May's meeting is May 13, 2024 at 8:00pm
both are at the Paola Extension Office.

New Miami County Fair Show Schedule Announced for the 2024 Miami County Fair!
The Miami County Fairboard has made several new changes to the 4-H/FFA Show Schedule.
Please check out the new schedule.

Miami County Fair Updates
April 2nd 7pm on Zoom
With all the changes happening to the
schedule and classes for the
2024 Miami County Fair,
Katelyn and Karla are hosting a
Miami County Fair Update Zoom.
We will be going over schedule changes,
new rules, and class & department changes. Invitations were emailed March 25th.

The zoom will be recorded for those unable to attend that evening.
April 2024 Cloverbuds!
Cloverbud meetings are offered in both
Linn & Miami County locations.
Both meetings will cover the same topics, so there is no need to attend both and you
 may attend a meeting in either county.

Our Topic for this month is "Bicycle"
 
LNCO Cloverbud Meeting is April 4, 5:30 p.m. at the Linn County 4-H Building.
 
MICO Cloverbud Meeting is April 11, 5:30 p.m. at the Paola Extension Office.

Entomology project meeting

Saturday, April 13th

I hope we can go out collecting,
so bring your insect nets, killing jar, and specimen containers. Hopefully Mother
Nature will cooperate with the weather!

Please bring your pinning boards and
materials to pin insects with and one or two insects to pin. We will try to finish the dragonfly craft we have been working on.

4-H Volunteer Training
 
The Association of Kansas 4-H Volunteers is hosting "Spring Into Volunteering" in Salina on the K-State Campus on Saturday, April 20.
 
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the day will conclude at 3 p.m. This is for anyone serving as a 4-H Volunteer or considering it! 
 
The goal is for volunteers to go home recharged, excited, and ready to try some new things in their volunteer roles.
 
Fee $20 - Take to your local Extension Office

Rock Springs Ranch Open House

Sunday, April 21 1-4pm

Camp families and friends are invited to attend Open House at Rock Springs Ranch! Rock Springs Ranch is 735 acres in the Flint Hills and we want to share the 4-H camp experience with everyone.

Come and join us for a tour of the property, meet our staff and learn all about the fun to be had at Kansas 4-H Camp at Rock Springs Ranch. Guests will get to see our cabins, activity center, pool, ropes course, horses, dining hall and lots more. Our team is so excited to meet you and answer all of your questions.

Shutterbug Photography Workshops

Shutterbug events are photography workshops put on across the state by the Kansas State 4-H Photography Committee. Workshops are typically scheduled as a morning session and concentrate on a variety of aspects of composition. The events typically end around Noon. Examples of sessions include: Portfolio, I have a camera-now what?, Panning, Close-ups, Aperture Settings & Kaleidoscopes/Reflections.

Contest Opportunities
Insect-Themed Art Contest
The Pesticide Safety and IPM program is
hosting an insect-themed art contest.
This contest is for Kansas 4-Her's & art students across the state. The theme this year is
"Incognito: Insects in Disguise".
The program encourages youth and adults
to get creative and create an
entry before the April 15, 2024 deadline.
 
"Hit Me with Your Best Shot" 4-H Photo Contest
Minnesota 4-H Photography is excited to offer a multi-state photo contest to youth in grades K-13. In the "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" 4-H photo contest, youth are encouraged to select their best photo and tell the committee why it’s special to them.

Submit one (1) image (with no or minimal editing) with up to three sentences on why it’s important to you by 11:59 p.m. (CST) on May 1, 2024.



Reminders
2024 State Livestock Nomination Information Released
The information for state livestock nominations has been released. All market animals and commercial breeding females must be state nominated to be eligible for the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive and/or KJLS.

Please register for the meetings by the Friday of the week before.
Beef - Monday April 8 @ 7pm
Small Livestock - Thursday May 9 @ 7pm
Frostings & Fillings
It is time to be thinking about what foods recipes you would like to take to the 2024 Fair. While searching for and practicing these recipes is fun, there are several factors that you need to consider.

Is that frosting or filing food safe? Does the recipe make a good product? These questions and many more can be answered by taking a look at the KSRE Food Judges website.
District 4-H Camp Scholarships offered by Miami County 4-H Foundation

2024 4-H Camp Registration
Ready, set, register! All 4-H camp sessions are now available for registration online.
 
This includes mini camp, half week, full week, Leaders in Training (LIT), Counselors in Training (CIT) sessions, Specialty and Family camps. Family camps allow parents to attend with their campers.
 
Rock Springs has finalized their transportation schedule.
 
Miami County 4-H Foundation is awarding camp scholarships to each MdC 4-H Member who attends camp this year. Use the promo code: SunFun75 for the 3-night or less camps or SunFun100 for the 5-night camps. This will give you $75 off the 3-night or less camps and $100 off the 5-Night camps.
