Resurrection Lives
It is pretty obvious why people in the Northern hemisphere chose the spring equinox, or times close to it, to celebrate new life. The Christian Church is no different. The days are noticeably longer, the weather tries to be a little warmer, and the rich earth shoots out new growth all around us. I do not know about you, but I am finding myself smiling a lot more living amongst this bursting beauty.
Jesus used horticulture as a tool to teach us about all kinds of ideas about the Kingdom of God. He spoke about vineyards, seeds, pruning, planting, and harvesting. I think when we pull these metaphors together we see that the Kingdom of God seems to involve a lot of care and attention.

We are very blessed to have several givers who donate all or portions of their RMDs from their IRAs to First Lutheran Church. Please add your name and address to your RMD check request. This guarantees that your donation will be credited to your FLC giving account.

Do you know where the missing silverware went?
The Fellowship Committee recently discovered that we are missing about half of the kitchen silverware from the downstairs FLC kitchen; we are especially low on soup spoons. We are hoping that someone borrowed it for a party, and forgot to bring it back.

Register Now for First Lutheran Church Preschool!
There is still time to register preschoolers for the fall! First Lutheran Church Preschool is now accepting applications for current families and church members. Open registration begins February 5th. Church members receive a 10% discount on tuition. Our preschool has classes for children ages 3-5 years old. If you have children, grandchildren, neighbors, or friends preschool age, please send them our way. We are happy to give tours and answer any questions that you may have. ELCA New Orleans Youth Gathering INFO Meeting
Sunday, April 21, 2024 - 11:45 AM to 2:00 PM
A group of 17 First Lutheran youth and adults will be attending the July 2024 ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans. A Gathering Info Meeting will be held at the Carolina Smoke BBQ Restaurant in Bothell on Sunday, April 21. Dave and Jim at Carolina BBQ are planning a New Orleans themed lunch for our group, featuring Fried Catfish, Hushpuppies and Red Beans and Rice! Important information about the gathering (airfare, lodging, Disney World, and “Experience Days”) will be shared. We will leave the Church at 11:45 AM and return to First Lutheran at around 2:00 PM. New Orleans Youth Gathering & Disneyworld - July 14 -July 24 Grades 9 - 12.
Vacation Bible School - Together! Monday, July 29 – Thursday, August 1
All children ages 3 through 6th Grade are invited to attend.
Preschool and Kindergarten students meet from 9 AM to 12 PM/Noon.
Students in Grades 1 – 6 will meet from 9 AM to 3 PM (includes lunch).Registration will open in May 2024. A Day Camp Team from Camp Lutherhaven will help lead this Vacation Bible School!

National Arbor Day
National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April (April 26th this year), but many states observe the day at different times of the year, depending on the best time for planting in each state. The first Arbor Day occurred on April 10, 1872, so celebrating, caring and planting trees isn’t new but is a long-recognized way of sustaining our planet, our forests, our wildlife, and our lives. In Washington State, Arbor Day is celebrated on the second Wednesday of April, so plant a tree on April 10th this year!
King County 2024 Household Hazardous Waste Collection – April Events
According to their website, King County prevented 3,231,340 pounds of hazardous waste from going into the environment in 2022! The traveling Wastemobile program is active from February thru October each year, and provides a safe and easy method for King County residents and small businesses to dispose of household hazardous waste such as oil-based paint, batteries, antifreeze, or pesticides, all at no cost. The Wastemobile location nearest FLC is at the University of Washington - Bothell campus (18115 Campus Way NE) in Bothell. The website currently shows that April’s event for this location has been cancelled. If you’re interested, check out the detailed instructions, acceptable items, allowable quantities for each, and the complete 2024 schedule of dates, times, and locations here.
This year, Earth Day is on Monday, April 22nd. It was first celebrated on April 22, 1970, to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Although it will be 54 years since the inception of Earth Day, the need to support the environment has not diminished. This year’s theme of “Planet vs. Plastics” advocates widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, the need to rapidly phase out all single use plastics, and the need for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution. Check out www.EarthDay.org for a variety of events that are being coordinated on a global basis to recognize the significance of this day.
