A Message From Our Director

Greetings from Amaryllis and happy April! Every month there is something to celebrate. April brings us longer days, but possible snow storms and many of us start to get the gardening bug. We also get April's Fools Day, National Unicorn Day, World Autism Day, National Blueberry Pie Day, Gardening Day, Earth Day and the entire month celebrates Occupational Therapists. We have amazing OTs here at Amaryllis. I hope your life has been positively impacted by Cindy, Robin, Joey, Kait, Katie, Michele, Tej, Mary, myself and our newest team member Katya. Find out more about your therapist by looking at their profile on our website.

Happy April and please reach out if there is anything Amaryllis can do for you.

MATERIALS

  • Felt
  • Pompoms
  • Artificial flowers
  • Kids garden tools

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Line the bin with brown felt. This step is optional; the felt just adds texture.
  2. Fill the bin with pompoms in shades of brown, or even black, to represent the soil.
  3. Separate individual flowers from stalks purchased at the dollar store or craft store. Flowers should be removed with short stems attached.

OPTIONS

  • Use the leaves as well as the flowers.
  • Add craft stick or pipe cleaner stems.
  • Make homemade flowers with cloth or foam shapes.
  • Cut flowers from magazines and glue to cardboar

PLAY!

  • Place flowers in the sensory bin along with some digging tools or grasping tools.
  • Squeeze the pompoms with hands and fingers.
  • Dig and pour and stack!
  • Show your child how to ‘plant’ a flower by piling pompom ‘soil’ around the stem to support the flower.
  • Sort flowers by color or size.
  • Bury all the flowers.
  • Match each flower to a stem.
