The Freshwater Trust Seeking New Restoration Sites

Spring is the season of regrowth The Freshwater Trust and local partners have been working in the Upper Willamette River watershed to launch a special shade program that is cooling the water and restoring wildlife habitat. Specific sites of highest value for planting new trees are identified by The Freshwater Trust using analytics with public data. They are reaching out to landowners with good sites now and over the next year – look out for a letter from them!

Recycled Water Advisory Network Launch

The MWMC is launching an Advisory Network of community members to help guide our continuing development of Class A Recycled Water. The Advisory Network will help inform the MWMC of where and how recycled water may be best used, so that our development can integrate with the community's needs. If you have a business or professional interest in the usage or availability of Recycled Water, please consider taking a few minutes to fill out our survey!

20 Year Facilities Plan Update

The MWMC's Capital Improvements group has been working for more than a year to craft it's 20-Year Facilities Plan. This plan will help forecast the future conditions we will need to anticipate and guide the MWMC to implement strategies that will meet those conditions. The first phase of plan design involved completing thorough inspections of our current facilities, including the facility resilience inspection we began last summer.

After completing most of our evaluations of currently-existing infrastructure, our planning staff and engineers are now designing a plan that shows our needs over the next 20 years. With those projections, we can then plan to build new infrastructure and upgrade facilities that meet the community's needs.

MWMC staff plan to update the Commission on the 20-Year Facility Plan at our monthly meeting on May 10th. They will also be discussing how they plan to engage the community over the coming months.

Volunteer Opportunity: Clean Water University

For the first time ever, Clean Water University (CWU) will be a three-day event in 2024! From October 1st - 3rd, the MWMC will host 5th graders at the regional wastewater treatment plant for a day packed with educational games, activities, and a tour of the plant. This expansion means we are also looking for volunteers to help us keep all three days staffed, and we'd love to hear from you if you're interested! For more details or to express your interest in attending, you can contact Communications Coordinator Thomas Gray.
