Lower Gwynedd Township Important Dates: 

Wissahickon Valley Historical Society to Host Speaker on the Historic Boxwood Farm’s Harley Family

The local Historical Society is hosting Bob Harley, family genealogist, who will speak about how he investigated generations of his family, once owners of Skippack Pike’s historic Boxwood Farm and about noted professional baseball player, Dick Harley, who lived there.

 

The Wissahickon Valley Historical Society announces its April speaker, and the public is cordially invited. Questions should be emailed to info@WValleyHS.org.

On Monday, April 8, at 7 PM at the 1895 Public School, 799 West Skippack Pike, Blue Bell, PA, Bob Harley will speak about the Harleys who lived at “The Boxwood,” presently the offices of PA Representative Liz Hanbidge. Bob’s grandfather is Dick Harley, and a plaque at Wentz Run Park recognizes his outstanding 19th-century baseball career.

General News:

Spring House Intersection Improvement Project:



Roadway construction is beginning for the Spring House Intersection Improvement Project. Drivers may experience delays due to construction activities on weekdays during the hours of 9AM – 3PM through July 2024 on Norristown Road, Sumneytown Pike, and Bethlehem Pike in the area of the intersection. Please check the website regularly for notices regarding specific construction activities. Also, please be aware that the trail along Norristown Road is closed at the Old Bethlehem Pike (Gulf Station) end. 

Recycling Reminders:


Republic Services will be providing leaf & yard waste collections this Spring on Saturday, April 13th and Saturday, May 11th. Please put leaves and yard waste in biodegradable bags and place curbside by 6am for pick-up.


Montgomery County Household Hazardous Waste Collections:

Montgomery County will be hosting residential household hazardous waste collections this year. Pre-registration is required, register at www.MontcoPARecycles.org. Free residential collection events are held outdoors. There are no permanent drop off locations, only these collection events.


  • Saturday, April 27th-Indian Valley Middle School, 130 Maple Avenue, Harleysville
  • Saturday, June 1st- Temple University-Ambler Campus, enter at 1431 E. Butler Pike, Ambler


Township Electronics & Shredding Event

The Township will hold a residential electronics recycling and shredding event at the Township building on Saturday, May 11th from 8am-11am. Residents are asked to not park in the parking lot of the building on the morning of the event. We need room to allow the vendors to set up for the event. We will not start early. This event is open to Township residents only. A police officer will check your license as you enter.

Comprehensive Plan Revision


Lower Gwynedd Township is in the process of drafting a new comprehensive plan, which is a long-range plan that guides future development. This spring, the Steering Committee be taking a closer look at the trails, open spaces, waterways and other natural features in the township. Retirement: Sgt. Mike Rogge took his ceremonial "last ride" into work at the Lower Gwynedd Township Police Department on Friday, March 29th, 2024, ending his 33-year career as a Lower Gwynedd Township Police Officer. On behalf of the Lower Gwynedd Township Board of Supervisors and Staff, we wish Sgt. Rogge all the best in his retirement, and we thank him for his service to our community.

Welcome: Officer Rodney King. Officer King graduated from the Temple Police Academy on Friday, March 29th, 2024. Officer King will now report to work as a Lower Gwynedd Township Police Officer. Congratulations Officer King!

Pride Flag Raising: Friday May 31st, 2024


All are welcomed to join us to raise the pride flag and celebrate pride month, which will begin on June 1st. The flag raising will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 5pm at Veterans Memorial Park located at the corner of N. Bethlehem Pike and Penllyn Pike.

Bellavance to Speak on Gwynedd History: Please mark your calendar--WVHS past president Russ Bellavance will speak on Tuesday, June 4, at 7 PM at the Lower Gwynedd Township Municipal Building at a program sponsored by Lower Gwynedd Township and the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society. His topic is “Gwynedd: Our Fair Land Through the Years.
