#ICYMI: NASA Causeway Bridge Now Complete Months Ahead of Schedule!

Per FDOT, now that the NASA Causeway bridges are complete, this corridor can now better accommodate the growing number and size of payloads and space industry vehicles, which will be important as more industry partners find their home in the Sunshine State.

SCTPO Participates in FDOT D5's Safety Strategic Plan Steering Committee Meeting

The SCTPO was thrilled to participate in FDOT D5's third steering committee meeting for the Central Florida Safety Strategic Plan, which is focused on the goal of achieving zero fatalities and serious injuries through safer street designs and behavior change.


The SCTPO also presented a project showcase, Media Relations: Best Practices, which highlighted our successful transportation safety series in partnership with Florida Today.

SCTPO Governing Board Kicks Off Three-Year Strategic Plan


Charting the course for the FUTURE! 🔍 At last week's SCTPO Governing Board Meeting, members took the first step in developing their Strategic Plan that will guide the SCTPO over the next 3–5 years. Through productive conversations and a hands-on goal-setting activity, they explored key areas like safety, resiliency, and sustainability, while also championing new priorities like funding, collaboration, and efficiency. ✍️⚙️🛣️


We’re energized by their thoughtful engagement and commitment to shaping a transportation system that meets the needs of our growing community and we look forward to next steps!

FY25 Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Now Open!


The U.S. Department of Transportation has officially released the FY25 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program — a federal funding opportunity to help communities plan and implement strategies that prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries. With $1.256 billion available this fiscal year, eligible applicants—including local governments, MPOs, counties, and tribal governments—can apply for:


🔹 Planning and Demonstration Grants to develop or update a Safety Action Plan, or


🔹 Implementation Grants to carry out strategies from an existing, qualifying plan.

FDOT Brevard County Projects in Orbit

I-95 Resurfacing

(South of Malabar to North of Fiske Blvd)


🚧 The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun resurfacing 24 miles of I-95 in Brevard, from south of Malabar Road (S.R. 514) to north of Fiske Boulevard (S.R. 519). The $63.2 million project includes ramp repaving, bridge deck treatments, ITS improvements, and barrier enhancements. Nighttime lane closures are expected from 7 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. through Fall 2026.

New Signal: US 1/Cidco Rd.

🚦 A new traffic signal at U.S. 1 and Cidco Road in Cocoa is now active! As drivers and pedestrians adjust to the changes, please stay alert and use caution when approaching the intersection. This FDOT project, which began last October, also includes resurfaced roadways, improved curb ramps and crosswalks, and updated pavement markings to enhance safety and mobility.

Clearlake Rd. PHBs

Going Live, Soon!

🚨New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) have been installed throughout Clearlake Road to help citizens cross high-speed roads safely. These new beacons can reduce pedestrian crashes by up to 55%!  Look for them at:

Ride It Down Titusville

Annual Community Bike Ride



What a ride! Our SCTPO team had a blast at the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Ride It Down Community Bike Ride! We loved chatting with visitors and locals about the importance of our amazing trail networks and how they connect communities. To keep riders safe and seen, we handed out free goodies like high-visibility helmet protectors, bike lights, and reflective items.

Florida Bicycle Month wrapped up with a fantastic Bike Rodeo at St. Teresa School in Titusville. The SCTPO was proud to support the Titusville Fire and Police Departments in teaching students essential bike safety skills, including: power pedal start for a strong takeoff, stopping safely and staying in control, looking left-right-left at a stop sign, and avoiding hazards on the road.

Trail Enthusiasts Turn Out for Southern Brevard Trails Master Plan Public Meetings


STANDING ROOM ONLY! We had an amazing turnout at our Southern Brevard Trails Master Plan Public Workshop, with 50+ attendees providing valuable input! 🚲🌿 Participants explored interactive stations, where they:


🛤️ Discovered different trail types and voted for their favorites

💰 Became a “Trail Tycoon” to prioritize funding for projects

🗺️ Reviewed maps of potential trail networks and shared feedback

🏞️ Highlighted how they use trails and suggested new destinations


Attendees also had the option to learn more about the plan, online during a Virtual Lunch & Learn webinar. SCTPO staff and our partners are continuing to keep the momentum rolling by reviewing public feedback.

SCTPO Welcomes New Employees

Meet the SCTPO's new Finance & Grants Manager, Madelyn Calvert! Madelyn will oversee fiscal operations and grant management, ensuring seamless budgeting, financial forecasting, and grant compliance. She’ll also manage audits, contracts, and procurement processes—keeping finances streamlined.

Meet the SCTPO's new Community Engagement Coordinator, Leah Nepo! In her role, Leah will lead our community engagement efforts—developing strategies to raise awareness and support for traffic safety initiatives, promoting education, and strengthening relationships with stakeholders across Brevard.

Shout out to Palm Bay Police Department!

Their Traffic Unit, Community Resource Unit, and Bike Patrol Unit spent time with students recently, teaching them the importance of staying safe while riding!

Shout out to Satellite Beach Police Department for their continued efforts in proactively educating their community about sharing e-bike and bicycle safety during Florida Bike Month!

Shout out to Cocoa Police Department for participating in a statewide high visibility enforcement campaign aimed at raising awareness about pedestrian and bicycle safety on roadways.

Community Traffic Safety Team Summit

Our SCTPO team attended the FDOT District Five Community Traffic Safety Team (CTST) Summit representing our local Brevard County CTST, where we connected with safety professionals from across the region! From enforcement campaigns and proven countermeasures to Vision Zero initiatives and community education programs, the summit was packed with insightful presentations aimed at making our roadways safer for all through collaborative efforts. 🤝🚸🚴‍♂️🚓
