Every day is Earth Day at Broward County Parks. Throughout the year, our staff manages various environmental projects in our regional, neighborhood, and natural areas. We are often the last line of defense for conservation and preservation. Our mission statement is Recreation. Preservation. Education. Whether its volunteering for our EcoAction Work Days or participating in an Earth Day walk at our nature centers, there are so many way to celebrate Earth Month in April. Things To Do

Model Airplane Field at Markham Park

There are more than 50 acres of ground space at Markham Park for takeoff and landing of remote-controlled model planes and helicopters. Events are hosted throughout the year and use of the airfield requires an annual membership.

Fox Observatory at Markham Park

The South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association is at the Fox Observatory at Markham Park. The facility is open every Saturday night at dusk for free stargazing until midnight. Check out the full "Pink Moon" on April 12!

Steam Train Rides at Tradewinds Park

Offered Saturdays from 10AM to 4PM on the third complete weekend of every month, the model steam train rides are $2 per ride for kids and adults. The trains are run by volunteers from the Tradewinds & Atlantic Railroad.

Gopher Tortoise Day Celebrations at Fern Forest Nature Center

Join us for free guided walks and crafts on April 6 at 10AM and a special gopher tortoise walk on April 10 at Noon.

Splash Eggcitement for Kids at Quiet Waters Park

Splash Adventure Water Park will be hosting egg hunts, bounce house, and Peter Cottontail for kids ages 4-10 on April 12 at 10AM. The fun event is $7.50 per child. The park’s weekend gate entrance fee of $3/vehicle (for eight or fewer passengers) will be in effect.

Mangrove Adventure Hikes at Anne Kolb Nature Center


Learn about the benefits of mangroves in this immersive experience. The walks are $3 per person and scheduled April 20, May 4, May 31, and June 29 at 10:30AM.

For the Doggie Moms and Dads!

Woofing Waters has a special Doggie Egg Hunt for small and large dogs on April 19. The unique event will feature vendors, treats, costume contest, and pictures with Bunny. There is an event fee, and the park weekend gate entrance fee will be in effect.

  • BAT Adventures at Tradewinds Park (South) on April 11.
  • Night mountain biking at Quiet Waters Park on April 16
  • Night hikes at Kristin Jacobs Natural Area at Hillsboro Pineland on April 18.

Support Parks

EcoAction Voluteer Work Day

Helping our parks by volunteering to clean up trash, remove invasive species, and plant native plants is essential for a healthier community and environment. We have regularly scheduled EcoAction Days every Saturday of the month at various parks and nature centers from October to May.
