In the past few years, we have been befriending a visitor and getting to know their story and their needs. Knowing their past has given us a better understanding and enjoyment of who they are. This friendship allowed our staff to support them through the loss of loved ones, the pain of battling addiction, and the challenge of looking for housing. We also got to celebrate their highs in life, like their birthdays and their commitment to follow Jesus.

This month, after years of working with a housing program, we are celebrating a big milestone: this visitor got to sign a lease agreement for long-term housing! It was exactly what they needed: a new place where they could have a fresh start in their life, to rest, and recover. It was a blessing beyond words! As the staff rallied together to help them with household items and furniture, this visitor got to call this new place their home.

For this visitor, please join us in prayer as they adjust to this new environment. It is a big shift from their previous lifestyle of years of living in homelessness. We ask the Lord to give them a sense of peace, assurance, and belonging, knowing that this is provision from Him.

Each of us has something we particularly enjoy and would like to share with others. For example, we’ve received baked goods from bakers, handmade blankets from quilters, and organized hygiene packs from many different donors. From our visitors, we’ve received their trust as they introduce us to their family members, their pride and joy.

For one visitor, they enjoy our afternoon church at the 10/40 Building. The time of worship, teaching, and prayer ministry was so meaningful to them that they wanted to share that experience with others. For another visitor, The Bridge has become a special place for them, so they wanted to give back. They helped us to clean the main area in preparing us for the next day. As “God’s Body sharing His unconditional love”, we get to encourage others to share the things that they love and appreciate.

Sometimes our visitors share about their habit of substance abuse. It is surreal how they casually talk about using something that is destroying their life. But, because of the friendship developed with the staff, we were able to ask vulnerable questions in an effort to understand the visitor’s heart. While acknowledging the consequences of using substances, the visitor also shared their painful stories. This kind of pain is the reason why so many people run to substances, hoping to medicate and forget.

As they felt the hopelessness, the staff was able to pray with them, sharing the freedom and help we can find in Jesus. What started as a bleak conversation turned into hope and resolution. How? God shows us the Way as He unconditionally loves us through it all.
