Simon Sinek's Top 3 Leadership Traits

What makes a great leader? According to Simon Sinek, it’s all about courage, integrity, and communication.

From finding courage in external support to building integrity by doing what’s right (not just what’s legal), and mastering the art of communication, these lessons will transform the way you lead.

The Four Rules for Decision-Making by Tony Robbins

What is decision-making?

We make decisions every single day. These decisions range from the small and seemingly insignificant – what should I have for breakfast? – to potentially life-changing – should I stay and work on my relationship, or should we break up? How to make a decision may not seem that important when it comes to the little stuff, but when it comes to how to make a big decision, the consequences are much more impactful.

Tony Robbins

When it comes to making tough decisions, not making a decision at all is the worst option. When you see life as happening for you instead of to you, you’ll realize that even when you think you’ve made the wrong decision, you’ve learned a valuable lesson that will help you move forward armed with more information. Even if you’re not struggling to learn how to make a life-changing decision, you can still waste valuable time procrastinating on the little choices in life.

TLP Leader to Watch - Paying It Forward Every Day!

The T2 Center made a great decision when we assigned a member of our team, who was also a Transportation Leadership Program (TLP) Alumni, to be the lead coordinator for the TLP.

This program takes a considerable amount of time and attention. I am sure each of you know how seriously Regina Hackett takes this responsibility and how much care she gives to each member of the TLP cohorts. Some have named her the “TLP Mom.”

Regina Hackett

Regina never misses an opportunity to check in with our cohort members to make sure they feel supported in their leadership journey. She even checks on members’ transcripts (something that is the participant’s responsibility) and provides them with reminders when she sees a class they might need to graduate. This is a level of customer service that we strive for at the T2 Center and that comes from having a genuine caring about this program and all of you. Regina goes above and beyond in this support. She also works very closely with our TLP instructors to ensure you have the best learning experience in each module and that our content includes very timely leadership topics.

"Be the Unicorn: 12 Data-Driven Habits that Separate the Best Leaders from the Rest" by William Vanderbloemen - Book Reviewed by TLP Cohort #10 Member

The author, William Vanderbloemen, is the head of an executive search firm and through his work he has been able to study the teachable habits that make people successful leaders. This book describes the traits that make a Unicorn based on data that he has collected and people that he has worked with over the last fifteen years. Specifically, he identifies twelve soft skills including: fast, authentic, agile, solver, anticipator, prepared, self-aware, curious, connected, likable, productive, and purpose driven.

I would absolutely recommend this book to other members of my TLP cohort. The lessons in this book are important and would benefit anyone looking to "Be the Unicorn" regardless of whether they are in a formal leadership position. I enjoyed reading the case studies throughout the book and the many quotes and experiences from individuals that the author has met during his career. This book has a conversational nature and is a great manual for personal and professional development.
