Happy spring to everyone! This newsletter is full of helpful information and lots of community events, so I encourage you to please read it in full.
The 2025-2026 Tentative Village Budget has been released and can be found online here. Hard copies of the budget are also available to review in the Municipal Building, Room 24, and the Croton Free Library. The Village Treasurer, Daniel Tucker, has put together a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on the budget and I encourage everyone to review it, if you have not already. The Village Board will be meeting with the department heads this month to review the budget and will ultimately adopt the budget, with any agreed-upon changes, at their board meeting on April 23rd, 2025.
I want to take a moment and thank Mr. Tucker for his years of service to the Village as he leaves for another position this Friday. Our capable Deputy Village Treasurer, Genette Toone, has been appointed Village Treasurer by the Village Board, and I look forward to working closely with Ms. Toone during the remainder of the budget season. The Village is currently looking to hire a Deputy Village Treasurer; please share our job posting with any qualified candidate you may know.
On March 26th, the Village Board adopted Local Law 5 of 2025 to use the Town of Cortlandt’s assessment roll for Village taxes beginning in 2026. The Village Assessor’s office will no longer exist and all assessing services, including the filing of exemptions, will be handled by the Town of Cortlandt. Please visit the Village website for more information on this process and look for a mailing in the next two weeks from the Village on this local law.
Some quick updates regarding other projects in the Village:
- Gotwald Circle: DPW has begun striping the area as the weather has begun to warm. Additional striping will take place this month and the Croton Garden Club will begin to plant and beautify the area.
- Harmon Firehouse: DPW continues to work on the EMS addition at the Harmon Firehouse. Bids for the sprinkler system at the building are due this week.
- Cleveland Drive Repaving: Village staff continue to work with NYSDOT on getting final approval to conduct the repaving of Cleveland Drive, Gerstein Street, Old Post Road South and Wood Road. The current plan is to pave these streets during the summer.

| | Ann Gallelli Recreation, Event, Arts & Learning Space Dedication | | |
On Friday, March 21st, members of our community gathered to dedicate the Gouveia Park house as the Ann Gallelli Recreation, Event, Arts & Learning (REAL) Space.
Ann, who passed away in February 2024, was a fixture in Village life for over 30 years, serving on the Village Planning Board, Board of Trustees, Water Control Commission and Waterfront Advisory Committee.
As the park and property are transformed over the next few years, the Ann Gallelli REAL Space will serve as the offices for the Croton Recreation Department and a multi-purpose center for programming, concerts, classes, art exhibits and much more.

On Saturday, March 29th, the Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony honored the brave men and women who served in Vietnam, recognizing their sacrifices, service, and contributions to our nation. This special event was graciously hosted by American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505, bringing together veterans, their families, and the community to express deep gratitude for their dedication.

The Village celebrates the life of Anthony Gagliotti, a dedicated 74-year member and Past Chief of the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. Known as “Hot Ton,” he was a beloved fixture in the department and his cherished Columbian Hook & Ladder Company No. 1. At 93, his passing marks the end of a remarkable journey of service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his community.
Chief Gagliotti’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his leadership, generosity, and friendship. He was always present, always giving, and his contributions to the fire department and the Village will never be forgotten. Our hearts are with his family, and we thank him for a lifetime of service that will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Yard Waste Collection Returns!
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson DPW will be collecting yard waste curbside during the spring, summer and fall months (April through October).
Yard waste will be collected on Wednesdays:
• On the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month, yard waste will be collected from homes North of Route 129.
• On the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month, yard waste will be collected from homes South of Route 129.
All yard waste must be placed in biodegradable leaf bags or open-top garbage cans. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected. Yard waste put out with the garbage or mixed in with the garbage will not be collected. No more than ten bags or three open top garbage cans per pickup.

KAYAK & CANOE STORAGE RACKS
The 2025 boating season registration is open! The Croton Recreation Department offers seasonal rack rentals at Echo Canoe Launch and Croton Landing to enable residents to store their kayaks and canoes by the water.
Village and School District residents may apply for a rental space online. Non-residents may apply beginning on April 1, 2025.

Applications Summer Employment Opportunities
with Croton Recreation
The Recreation Department has begun accepting applications for 2025 summer employment opportunities, including day camp counselors, life guards at Silver Lake, and gate attendants at Silver Lake and Senasqua Park.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old as of July 1st. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old as of July 1st. Working papers issued by the school Guidance Department are required for those under 18 years of age. For more information and to apply, click here.

Croton Yacht Club
Educational Seminars
Please come and enjoy two evenings filled with interesting and entertaining history connected to the Hudson River. These seminars, free of charge, will be held at the Croton Yacht Club, 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson.
The History of Croton Point Friday, April 11th, 7:30 pm
Village Historian Marc Cheshire will present the fascinating history of Croton Point—"from the time of the first Native American settlements (dating back 7,000 years) to capping the Westchester County garbage dump. We’ll learn the whispered tales of witches who once guarded Captain Kidd’s buried treasure, how the cannons fired at the British ship Vulture led to the capture of Major John André during the Revolutionary War and the extensive plans by the county to transform Croton Point into Playland West.”
The Historic Ships of the Hudson Friday, April 25th, 7:30 pm
Retired Town of Ossining Historian, Scott Craven will present “Historic Ships of the Hudson, from the first submarine to articulated tug barge combinations”. Scott is an avid fly fisherman and kayaker who has presented many informative and entertaining topics at the yacht club.
