Celebrating Our Team & Keeping Pets Healthy This April
Spring has sprung here in Madison! As the weather warms and flowers bloom, we're excited to share some important pet health reminders and fun tidbits to keep your furry, scaled, and feathered friends happy and healthy.
Springtime Safety Tips for Pets
With the change in seasons comes new potential hazards for our pets. Keep these tips in mind:
-
Easter Lilies and Other Toxic Plants: Many spring flowers, including lilies, tulips, and daffodils, are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep them out of reach.
-
Gardening Chemicals: Store fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides securely away from pets. Read labels carefully before use and keep pets off treated areas for the recommended time.
-
Increased Outdoor Activity: As you and your pet spend more time outdoors, be mindful of ticks and fleas. Ensure your pet is up-to-date on their parasite prevention.
-
Warmer Weather Hazards: Avoid leaving your pet unattended in a parked car, even on a mild day. Temperatures inside a car can rise rapidly to dangerous levels. Be aware of potential heatstroke during outdoor exercise.
-
Wildlife Encounters: Keep your pets on a leash during walks to prevent encounters with potentially dangerous wildlife.

Fun Fact: The Amazing Sense Of Smell
Did you know that a dog's sense of smell is estimated to be between 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than a human's? Their noses have around 300 million olfactory receptors compared to our mere 6 million! This incredible ability allows them to detect scents that are virtually undetectable to us, playing a vital role in their exploration of the world and even assisting in medical detection.

A Lifesaver for Snoopy:
Affordable Care Makes a Difference
Facing a serious health issue, Snoopy came to us not feeling himself. Our committed team delivered quality, affordable care, leading to his full recovery.
His grateful owner, Liza, shared, "This place was a lifesaver. My Snoopy had severe bladder stones needing surgery, and they were amazing in supporting us through it. The phone consultation, despite the distance, was incredibly helpful. The cost was also much more manageable than other quotes. Their communication was fantastic from start to finish. I highly recommend them for any pet needing surgery."
We're delighted Snoopy is now thriving with his family.
Thank you for choosing us, Liza!

Featured Adoptable at SFTS:
Lone Ranger
Meet lovable Lone Ranger, a giant puppy German Shepherd! Despite hip dysplasia and swimmer's syndrome causing faster fatigue, his sweet, energetic spirit is contagious. He needs rest during play and is best with older kids due to his size and occasional wobbly movements. This strong pup uses his mouth playfully (not aggressively) and is okay with tolerant cats (he can be overly enthusiastic).
Lone Ranger enjoys other dogs but is learning social cues. He needs patient encouragement with crating due to a difficult past. Ultimately, he's a cuddly, affectionate dog craving attention. If you seek a sweet, energetic companion, meet Lone Ranger!
All of SFTS's animals are spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped, heartworm tested, receive prevention, and are vaccinated. Apply to adopt below.
