It’s springtime in Arizona, that delightful time of year where the temperature fluctuates enough to make choosing between long and short sleeves a daily decision! I hope this April finds you celebrating either Passover or Easter, or both, surrounded by loved ones. It's a time for family, friends, and importantly, for remembering to prioritize God in our lives. We have so much to be thankful for this year. Personally, I've experienced more joy, laughter, and celebration in the past year than in the previous four combined!
As you peruse our latest newsletter, please give some thought to the programs you'd like to attend and any positions you might be interested in applying for next year. We need your energy and enthusiasm to secure another victory in 2026 and maintain our momentum. We can't afford to slow down or lose sight of our goal. Keep Arizona RED!!
Remember that April is also Child Abuse Prevention Month and Autism Awareness Month. It's easy to get caught up in the intensity of politics, but let's not forget the fundamental reason we strive to improve our country and the world: our children. National Volunteer Week runs from April 20th-26th. Take this opportunity to contribute to a cause you care about; volunteering offers a unique kind of joy that rejuvenates the soul and keeps you feeling young. Stay positive, keep an open mind, and surround yourself with supportive people who encourage your journey. Who knows…you might meet your new BFF, pickleball partner or even soulmate while doing it!
Please share your volunteer activities with me!
I'd love to highlight the wonderful contributions our members make to the community at our upcoming luncheon and inspire others to get involved.
I know the newsletter contains a lot of information, but please pull out your calendars
and mark all the dates mentioned so you don’t forget to attend. Also, mark all of your volunteer hours since January 1st and get those to Joan Lang by email or at our next meeting: wandjlang@gmail.com. Our club is one of the most active clubs in the state, and we want to capture all that you do to share.

Come on out to the 14th Hope Charity AZLEOS Annual Battle of the Badges flag football game on April 26th at Liberty High School 7pm for a rematch between last year’s champs the East Valley first responders (the Sentinels) and the West Valley first responders (The Warriors) to raise money for injured police and firefighters.
Thank you to the women who donated at our lunch meeting. PVRW was able to become a Silver Sponsor for the game and get our logo added to the banner to show our support and love of first responders.
PS: Please say a little prayer for my 60-year-old police officer husband, Jim, to stay safe out there! He's playing center for the East Valley team in his 14th game. Age is a state of mind when you love what you do!
Blessings to you and yours.

Happy Spring! We might be able to enjoy this amazing weather for about two weeks before Summer arrives.
Our April luncheon was an energetic and amazing presentation by Cathi Marx. Her presentation was a true learning experience on how to better protect ourselves in numerous situations. I think the mantra that I took away from our presentation was to “put our phones down”. I know I will attempt to be much for aware of my surroundings. Thank you, Cathi.

Our May speaker will be 'FBI John' - better known as John Iannarelli. He is a retired FBI Agent, and I’ve asked him to share his experiences and thoughts around the Agency during the Biden administration and our current Trump administration. He is a keynote speaker who has presented on ABC, Fox News, CNN, NBC and written for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, USA Today and Bloomberg. This will be an excellent opportunity to invite your husbands/significant others and friends to attend this meeting.
As I have previously stated, I do have possession of the 7th book from Loren Spivack. I was at this April meeting to deliver and while most of the preorders have been picked up, I still have 10 books. For those of you who have not yet picked up your book, please arrange with me to pick up your book at my home before our May meeting. You can contact me at michaljoyner@gmail.com. All unclaimed books will be contributed to The Elephant in the Room at the May meeting to sell to any members who did not purchase when Loren spoke.
In closing, my heart is broken over the loss of Judy Gaffney. Her diagnosis of cancer was so quick that it has left all of us deeply saddened with her passing. She will be truly missed.
See you in May.

Thank you for your generous Mother's Day gifts in April of fragrant toiletries to underprivileged mothers! What a blessing!
In May, we will host a food drive for the new Scottsdale Food Bank. The city of Scottsdale provides 400 families with nutritious food every week. Incredibly, 90% of the food provided is fresh food! This is a special program, thank you very much for supporting local families in need.

April Americanism Moment
American Civil War
The commencement of the end of the American Civil War began with the articles of
surrender agreement, written by General Ulysses S. Grant, enacted when General
Robert E. Lee surrendered to him in the Village of Appomattox on April 9, 1865.
On April 6,1866, President Andrew Johnson stated a proclamation that formally ended the “rebellion” in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia plus “suppression” in Tennessee. There were pockets of resistance in Texas which was excluded.
The actual formal or legal end of the war came on August 20, 1866, when President Andrew Johnson signed a Proclamation declaring that Peace, Order, Tranquility, and Civil Authority Now Exists In and Throughout the Whole of the United States of America. This included the State of Texas as well.
It was felt that slavery was a huge influence in the American Civil War. Even after
President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation declaration on January 1, 1863, the war
continued. Some of it had to do with lack of communication. President Lincoln did live
long enough to see General Lee’s surrender; but, was assassinated on April 14, 1865, and
died the next day. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth, a confederate supporter.

Almighty God, we thank you for this time of year when the desert is in bloom and we enjoy picturesque sunrises and sunsets. Nature is truly a reflection of your majesty and beauty.
Let us choose to live each day with peace and joy and allow Your presence to calm our hearts knowing you are in control.
We pray this in the name of our Lord,
our Yeshua.
