Hello sisters,
A few weeks ago, I presided over my final national council meeting, which was a bittersweet event for me. I've treasured my time on the National Council. I hope my council sisters enjoyed this year with me as their leader. I am grateful for the information and experience I have received over the last nine years, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have developed the friendships I have and will continue to develop.
I mentioned in a previous newsletter article that service is woven into the fabric of our organization's history, and it is instilled in each of us, or we would not call ourselves Psi Otes.

As a result, it is critical that when your chapter's nominating committee asks you to serve as an officer for your chapter, you view it as a privilege and be willing to do your best.
Recently I’ve heard from a couple of chapters concerning their members reluctance to step up to accept officer positions therefore, the current officers will continue serving in their current roles after already serving for several continuous years. Over time this will result in members becoming disgruntled and burned out. This misfortune is not fair to an individual in the leadership position, and over time it does not encourage growth or new ideas.
Serving as a new officer in your chapter involves only a small amount of extra time to ensure that you are prepared for meetings. It also makes no difference how old you are or whether you have previously served in the same office. Remember that it is an honor for your sisters to ask you to occupy a position in leadership.
Serving as an officer in your local chapter, as well as attending a State Meeting, if applicable, and the National Convention, will provide you with insight into the organization's philanthropic mission and sisterhood. Also, serving on a State or National committee is a wonderful steppingstone if you want to be considered for a position on the State Board or National Council.
Please remember to consider your options before accepting a call to fill an officer position for your chapter, especially if you are unsure. In addition to enjoying the commitment you make to your sisters; you may come to the realization that you are the ideal candidate to fill those shoes.
“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.” – Nelson Mandela

In January of this year, we reported the results of an online survey conducted by the Future Planning Committee. In the area of communication, there was an overwhelming response to utilize electronic communication in place of the US postal service. With declining service and increasing cost of postage, it is felt to be fiscally responsible to use electronic communication in the form of email for all previously mailed correspondence. This change will take effective May 1, 2025.
Ensure your chapter's email address with National Council is accurate to receive all communications. Please review and verify that the email addresses entered on the PCR for your chapter officers are accurate.

At the 2020 National Convention it was presented and approved for Psi Iota Xi to support the Hear Indiana Scholarship as our next LTP. The endowment gift of $100,000, named “Psi Iota Xi and Hear Indiana Scholarship” was created to encourage first –year graduate students to commit to working with deaf and hard of hearing children. Our shared goal is to increase the number of qualified professionals in our states. The scholarship will be open to audiology and speech-language pathology in all our states. In addition to this financial award, Hear Indiana will make their professional expertise available to scholarship recipients. Our monies will be invested with the goal to make this scholarship last into perpetuity.
Since our money will come to them in increments, the financial responsibility of gaining interest will be taken over by the Hear Indiana Investment Committee. We have raised over half of the $100,000.
We, as chapters, need to take the raising of these funds as a challenge. Some chapters have found that the most effective way of donating to the LTP Fund is through entering it into their budget as a line item each year. It can be a very small amount to whatever your chapter can handle. When we are all committed, there is no stopping us.
| | |
A representative from Psi Iota Xi’s National Council will be involved in choosing the scholarship when it becomes available to be given. By adding Psi Iota Xi to the name of the scholarship, this endowment gift will increase awareness of our philanthropic organization among applicants, faculty members, and family members of recipients.
If you have any questions on the LTP please contact me.

As we approach the end of our chapter year, we have a couple of events that are looked forward to annually - the Indiana State Association Meeting and National Convention. The Indiana meeting happens each year in April and convention in June. Unless your chapter has been directly involved, it is hard to imagine the amount of work that is poured in to get ready to host events such as these.
Securing the site and signing contracts can take place years prior to the event but that is just the start of things. There is a theme that must be chosen, a gaming license to secure, food that must be arranged, entertainment and speakers to line up not to mention all the other things that you don’t notice upon registering and entering the venue.
| | |
We use these events to network with other chapters to get ideas about membership, fundraising, socials, chapter collaboration and simply to make new friends with our sisters throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan. When you attend your second meeting or convention you immediately start to recognize faces and names you have seen previously.
I hope that you are encouraging all your members to attend if schedules permit – it is at these meetings that attendees get a true picture of what our organization accomplishes on a larger scale. In addition to voting on projects to contribute to that impact a large number of our residents, we choose a long-term project every few years where a substantial amount of money is given over a period of years to benefit research or treatment or award scholarships in one specific area of our organization’s focus. In 2020 the membership voted to support the Psi Iota Xi Hear Indiana Scholarship as our 4th Long Term Project.
If you aren’t attending as a delegate, consider gathering your sisters and registering to attend the meetings, enter to win raffle baskets and learn more about the state and national organizations. The bonus is a ride along with some good company and maybe a bit of shopping along the way.

| | | | The Kentucky State Association (KSA) Spring meeting was held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the LaGrange Railroad Museum and Learning Center. This year we got to experience a unique meeting space as it was held inside a Railroad train car. Our KSA sisters along with several National Council members, PNPs and guests got to enjoy the experience and learned from some volunteers that it’s rare to have four trains pass through town during our visit. They shared on most days you may have one to two. | | |
At the beginning of our meeting, we were delighted to have Amee D’Amico, Executive Director of High Point Charitable Services, welcome us to LaGrange, KY. High Point is a volunteer driven organization working to bring wholeness to the community, share the gospel and meet physical needs. They exist to help meet the needs of children, fragile adults, the elderly, and families. High Point helps with resources to reduce the suffering of families caught in the cycle of hunger, poverty, and homelessness. They offer a food pantry, worship services, clothes closet, and grace resource center.
After introductions and some fun icebreaker questions, we moved right into reviewing previous meeting minutes and financial review. Discussed old business with updates on financial records, special committee reports, and sharing fundraising ideas. Iota Chi (LaGrange) and Zeta Iota (Louisville) provide chapter reports of what’s taken place over the past year from each of their chapters.
Our new business included voting on the special KSA project, budget proposal, and sharing KSA board meeting report. New committees were set for fundraising and bylaws. National President, Mickie Hansen installed our incoming officers. As one of our KSA fundraisers, we held two chance baskets and a 50/50 which two of the three were won by a PNP and National Council member!
After closing remarks and reminders of upcoming events, our membership shared a special moment in singing the National Song inside the train car.
Thank you to all the KSA sisters for all that you do to support this wonderful organization. Thank you to those that traveled to join us for our spring meeting.

As I write this the calendar tells me that it’s the first day of Spring, but we woke up to snow and sleet and gray skies. Personally, I’m ready for color and laughter and the warmth of bright sunshine that we were teased with last week. Luckily, my chapter is deep into the hands-on tasks of the Indiana State Meeting. Finally, we get to see our plans and ideas becoming reality and it has completely reenergized our Sisters. We’re now surrounding ourselves with dragonflies and raffle baskets and decorations. This Saturday we’re having a Stuffing Party where we get to fill (and finally see in person) all the goodies that our team has collected for the Welcome Bags. We’ll have nibbles and laughter and probably some Oldies on the stereo as we come together to enjoy each other’s company while we prepare our welcome gifts for you. I have no doubt that we will find moments of connection with one another that will feel magical, and that feeling will carry through all of our preparations.
Gamma Tau Chapter is genuinely thrilled to be welcoming you to Marion, and sincerely hope that you find magic in your own small moments at the meeting – the shared smile across the breakfast spread, the shared giggle at a Sister’s inappropriate joke as we’re settling into our seats for the day, the shared laughter when I inevitably either go off script with a comment or make a mildly inappropriate joke (because it will happen at some point), the shared understanding in the moments where we mention loss and the uplifting support our Sisters offer in our hardest moments.
Our wish for you is that at this State Meeting, you actively look for ways to connect with your sisters, be it from your chapter or others, just look for the connectivity and similarities and in those moments let yourself feel the Magic of Connection with your Sisters in those small, fleeting moments. We cannot wait to see you on Saturday, April 26, 2025!

For more than a decade, Psi Iota Xi District Officers have been honoring chapters by presenting awards at National Convention. In recent years, these much sought-after awards have been in the form of a button, hence the name, Button Award.
We want to hear about the amazing things your chapter accomplished THIS YEAR. You are encouraged to submit achievements you have not previously submitted. Your accomplishments don't have to be monetary but impactful. We also ask that you only highlight one accomplishment for each question.
It is the responsibility of the President to make sure their chapter submits a form; however, she may designate another chapter member to complete the submission.
This year we ask that you complete the form and email it back to your District Officer prior to the May 10, 2025, deadline.

KAPPA KOKOMO INVITES YOU TO THEIR
ANNUAL LUNCHEON & SILENT AUCTION
The sisters of Kappa Chapter in Kokomo will be holding their annual Luncheon/Silent Auction on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Those attending will enjoy a light lunch and a sometimes-competitive silent auction that features a variety of items that bidders will enjoy. Combine lunch, auction, and wonderful fellowship and you have an activity that people anticipate each year. Cost is $20.
Though the mood is light, the motive is more serious. This is the main fundraiser for the Kappa Chapter. The success of this activity helps us to continue to provide scholarships to deserving students and to operate a summer speech clinic for students in the Kokomo/Howard County area that need a little extra help.
We would like to invite everyone to join us for a good time and for a good cause. The event will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church, 3401 South Dixon Road in Kokomo. Lunch will be served at 11:30 but the auction items will be available for review and bids at 10:00.
Grab a friend (or friends) and join us. We promise you an enjoyable event that we hope you will make an annual activity.
For additional information or tickets, contact Jolene Smith (765-438-3237) or Holly Seamon (765-437-4004). Reservations should be made by May 9, 2025.
