Dear Self Direction Participants and Families,
In our efforts to help you co-manage your self-hired employees we are rolling out monthly resources for people who have self-hired staffing built into their budgets. We hope you will find these resources informative and helpful.
The April resource provides an overview of Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) Requirements from NYS Department of Health (DOH). Since January 1st, 2021, we have been obligated to adhere to EVV expectations for Community Hab and Respite service delivery. These statewide requirements were developed for the purpose of preventing fraudulent use of home-based services. According to NYS DOH, "EVV, is an electronic system that verifies when a provider visit occurs and captures the date and time of the visit, the location of the visit, the person who received the services, the person who provided the services, and the services provided."
Our eVero processes for service documentation have been developed specifically to ensure compliance with EVV. All self-hire employees are required to allow access to their location at the time they are documenting the start and end of their shifts in the eVero app. This allows for the exact GPS location to be captured and then reported to the NYS DOH. Failure by staff to properly use the eVero app prevents us from meeting EVV requirements and negatively impacts agency-wide compliance. Our expectation is to maintain 95% compliance with EVV documentation. For this reason, if a self-hire employee who supports you or your loved one is struggling with eVero documentation, we ask that they work closely with our Fiscal Intermediary team to resolve ongoing issues with documentation. Our goal is to help employees succeed and we are always willing to provide additional support, training, and to answer any questions.
In the link below, you will find the NYS EVV Fact Sheet which provides a full explanation of these regulations. We appreciate your support in ensuring our compliance goals are met. Please reach out to your FI contact if you have any questions about EVV!
