The League of Women Voters is in the fight

We are co-sponsoring an April 5 Hands Off Rally at the Courthouse in Media along with several other organizations.

Several League members joined Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon at a press conference in front of the Social Security Administration office in Chester Monday, March 31 (below) to tell Elon Musk's DOGE wrecking crew to keep its hands off Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

A new website, Musk Watch DOGE Tracker, is following his action. You can subscribe for free. Sign up for the April 5 Rally at the courthouse HERE, but you don't have to sign up. Just show up.

LWVCDC President's Message

Anne Mosakowski: The presidential executive order on elections is a dangerous attempt to silence American voters

The League of Women Voters of the United States issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's signed executive order, “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” that threatens Americans’ freedom to vote and tramples states’ constitutional authority to run their own elections.

“Let’s keep it real: this order is not about protecting elections; it is about making it harder for voters — particularly women voters — to participate in them,” said Celina Stewart, Chief Executive Officer of the League of Women Voters of the United States. “This executive order is an assault on our republic and a dangerous attempt to silence American voters. The President continues to overstep his authority and brazenly disregard settled law in this country. To be very clear — the League of Women Voters is prepared to fight back and defend our democracy." Read More

Urgent: The SAVE Act is on the Floor of the House

Jodine Mayberry, left, and Anne Mosakowski, right, flank Chester Housing Authority Director of Public Affairs Executive Assistant Quineice N. Harris after they counted and certified the ballots for two housing authority communities on March 27.

Two other LWV members, Kathleen Peterson and Peggy Wilson, had supervised the elections for those two communities.

The Chester Housing Authority has come to trust LWVCDC to be fair, disinterested arbiters of their elections.

Budget and Bylaw Changes for Annual Meeting

Our bylaws require us to publish the coming year's budget and any bylaw changes ahead of the LWVCDC Annual Meeting, which will be June 11 this year at the Marple Public Library.

The budget looks very different from past years because it reflects the changes at the national League level on membership and dues collection that began on Feb. 1.

Here is the BUDGET and the BYLAW CHANGES. Please open and look at them and be prepared to vote on them at the annual meeting. If you have any questions please contact Anne Mosakowski at amosakowski@gmail.com.

Gun Safety and Judiciary Meetings

The League of Women Voters of Delaware County met on Gun Safety as a Public Health Issue on on March 22 and reached concurrence to support the LWV of Greater Pittsburgh's resolution to support reducing gun violence through the lens of gun safety as a public health issue. LWV members in Delaware County agreed to adopt this position as our own through concurrence. Read LWVDC President Roberta Winters' report on the meeting HERE. Power Point in her report is HERE.

Also, about 20 LWVCDC and Radnor League and LWVDC members met in person and came to a consensus on the 12 questions posed by LWVUS for its Federal Judiciary Position. Participants either strongly or moderately agreed on all 12 questions with a few comments on a couple of them. The report now goes to the state and then the national League to be compiled into a position statement.
