Dear family and friends of Christ Church,
Jesus’ first statements in John’s Gospel form a theological imperative that continues to shape and define my understanding of Christian discipleship. You have heard me reference them before.
Jesus first asks his potential disciples:
“What are you looking for?”
He then follows up with an invitation:
“Come and see”.
As we enter into Holy Week, these two verses are on repeat in my brain. These verses are important for me as a Christian and leader of a faith community, and for all we Christians and seekers who will spend time in prayer and reflection this week.
What are we looking for? What truth might the story of Jesus’ passion and resurrection reveal to us about the nature of God and our place in this world? What might I hear differently this Holy Week, if I open myself to the possibility that God has something more in store for me? What unexpected joy might be waiting to be resurrected in me?
Wherever you are on your journey in faith; whatever twists and turns the first months of this year have seen in your life; however unprepared you may feel, Christ’s invitation is the same: Come and see.
My video below details our Holy Week offerings. I hope to see you often throughout this powerful week. So many have been working so hard to prepare for this sacred season. I cannot tell you precisely how your presence here will impact your spirit, but I promise you it will.
See you in church! Blessings and peace,
Chris
