May 2026 Newsletter

May is National Women’s Health Month, anchored by National Women’s Health Week, which begins on Mother’s Day and encourages women and girls to make their health a priority. This year’s theme, Prevention, Innovation, and Impact: A New Era in Women’s Health, highlights the importance of preventive care, early detection, and whole-person health across the lifespan.

National Women’s Health Month is a reminder that health includes physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Women are encouraged to stay up to date on checkups, support their mental health, stay active, eat well, and advocate for their care.

In Cincinnati, this message is especially important. Women’s health is closely tied to maternal and infant outcomes. Recent increases in infant mortality rates highlight a concerning trend and the need for renewed focus. Disparities persist, with Black families experiencing higher rates of infant loss and maternal health complications. These outcomes are shaped by access to care, safe spaces for activity, healthy foods, and culturally responsive services.

This month is both a call to awareness and action. By prioritizing prevention and addressing inequities, we can support healthier outcomes for women, families, and communities.

Honoring the Life and Legacy
of Stacy Wright-Barleston

Sisters of the Heart Network

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our LWPC member, Stacy Wright-Barleston. Stacy was a valued part of our coalition, and we take this moment to recognize and honor the impact she made through her work, advocacy, and commitment to improving the health of others.

Stacy was a passionate advocate, leader, and voice for women’s health. As a heart health educator, survivor, and founder of Sisters of the Heart Network, she dedicated her work to uplifting others and raising awareness about cardiovascular health, particularly among Black women.

Her work was rooted in both personal experience and deep commitment. As a heart attack survivor, Stacy transformed her journey into purpose by educating, empowering, and encouraging others to prioritize their health and advocate for themselves.

Through her leadership, Stacy created spaces for connection, education, and support. She was known not only for her knowledge but for her compassion, strength, and ability to bring people together around a shared mission of health and equity.

Stacy’s legacy lives on through the communities she strengthened and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her dedication, her voice, and the lasting impact of her work.
