Guided Discussion with JCLC on April 26!


Come see a new play centering older adults at Riverside Theater! The Fiancé opens on April 16th and will continue through the first week of May!


After the April 26 performance, there will be a talkback hosted in collaboration with Johnson County Livable Community for Successful Aging, featuring chair, John Kalohn, aging life coach & researcher Mary McCall, and FeatherStone’s Jordan Pahl. This event is free and open to the public; you do not need to attend that day’s performance to attend the talkback.

Iowa Fraud Fighters: Stop the Scammers 2026 Tour


Take control of your financial wellness by attending a Stop the Scammers event near you! These free events are hosted by the Iowa Department of Insurance & Financial Services and AARP. Pre-registration is required! Stop the Scammers events will take place across Iowa and there will be a stop in Coralville on May 12th! April is Earth Month and Earth Day is April 22nd!


To learn more about what you can do to protect our planet and live more sustainably, consider attending this year's Earth Expo hosted by Climate Action Outreach and Green Iowa AmeriCorps! The event will take place on April 11 from 1pm-4pm at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center! Visit Earth Expo- Iowa City, IA to learn more!

AARP Senior Planet: Technology Education for Older Adults


Iowa City Public Library and Johnson County Public Health are partnering with Senior Planet from AARP to help older adults use technology to learn new skills, save money, get in shape, and make new friends. Classes are hosted at the Iowa City Public Library and are intended for adults 60 and over, but anyone is welcome!


Upcoming Senior Planet Classes at the ICPL include:

  • April 13: Intro to Managing Your Privacy
  • April 24: Intro to AI
  • April 28: Cloud Storage
  • May 4: Technology for Aging in Place
  • May 12: Passwords, Passkeys, and More

Advice on Aging


Heritage Area Agency on Aging will begin hosting a monthly walk-in service for seniors and their caregivers to get connected with community resources. “Advice on Aging” will take place the third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Coralville Public Library’s Study Room. Stop by to learn about care services, get help with Medicaid applications, discuss elder abuse concerns or chat about anything else on your mind. No appointment is needed and there is no charge for Heritage AAA services.


This month, Advice on Aging will be on Thursday, April 16th at 10 a.m.

Csomay Caregiver Support Group: Spring Webinar Series


Join the Csomay Center for Gerontological Excellence for their Spring Webinar Series. These webinars are free and will take place over Microsoft Teams. On April 28, the topic will be "Aging and The Law." Links to register for the April session will be posted on the Csomay Center's Facebook page!

Alzheimer's Association 2026 Virtual Education Series


Join the Alzheimer's Association for informative virtual sessions covering a wide range of topics including brain health, caregiving, and Alzheimer's research. All sessions will take place on Zoom from 11am-12pm. In March, sessions are focused on brain health and dementia awareness, but the series will continue through June! Let's Talk Books: 50 is the New 30!


Let's Talk Books is a series of casual online conversations about books hosted by the Iowa City Public Library. The group meets Zoom to talk about their favorite books in a specific genre or theme!

Stories Between Generations:

Registration Opens on May 1, 2026!


Stories Between Generations is a summer reading and letter exchange program bringing Iowa City seniors and young people in grades 3 through 8 together. Seniors and young people who have each selected the same book will be paired together as pen pals! Then, they will exchange at least two letters over the course of the summer about what they’re reading and what they want the other person to know.


Space is limited to 20 older adults and 20 youth participants. Interested participants can register any time during the month of May! Participants will be notified of their partner and how to pick up their book on June 1st!

I Like it Here : Film Screening and Guided Discussion on May 7th, 2026


I Like it Here (2022) is a documentary film that challenges us to face aging and mortality with honesty, curiosity, and humor. As part of their Community Collaborations series, FilmScene will be hosting a screening of I Like it Here on May 7th at 6:30pm. The screening is presented in partnership with the JCLC Policy Board, TRAIL, and other community organizations. Leaders from these organizations will facilitate a guided discussion after the screening!


To make this event as accessible as possible, tickets are available on a "Pay What You Can" basis.

May 20, 2026: Corridor Conference on Aging


Mark your calendars for this educational event happening on May 20, 2026. The 2026 Corridor Conference on Aging: Aged to Perfection will have speakers, resources, and community organizations to help you age well! The event is free for individuals 60 and older!
