HCBS Listening Session - New Medicaid Option

Why This Matters: A New Option for HCBS

Community partners across the country are paying close attention to a new Medicaid option created through recent federal legislation (Section 1915(c)(11) under the Working Families Tax Cut).

This legislation offers a new waiver option that could allow participating states to provide support earlier, helping people access services based on need rather than an institutional level of care and stay connected to their homes and communities.

For individuals and families, this could mean:

  • Greater flexibility in how services are delivered
  • Expanded access to supports that promote independence and community inclusion
  • New opportunities for states to strengthen and modernize service systems

At the same time, details are still emerging. How this option is implemented—and who it ultimately benefits—will depend on decisions made at the state and federal levels.

A national listening session will be held to gather input from individuals, families, providers, and advocates. This is an opportunity to share perspectives and help shape the development of this option.

Date: May 19, 2026

Time: 1:30–3:30 PM (Virtual)

We encourage anyone interested to stay informed and consider participating.

ABD Waiver Renewal – Listening Sessions

Share Your Input: ABD Waiver Renewal

Community partners across New Hampshire are preparing for the renewal of the Acquired Brain Disorder (ABD) Medicaid Waiver, which supports individuals with brain injuries to live and participate in their communities.

As part of this process, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services is hosting a series of listening sessions to gather feedback from individuals, families, providers, and community members.

These sessions are an opportunity to:

  • Share experiences with current services
  • Identify gaps or challenges
  • Help shape the future of ABD waiver supports in New Hampshire

Input from those directly impacted plays an important role in ensuring services remain responsive, effective, and aligned with community needs.

We encourage anyone interested to participate and share their perspective.

Looking Ahead

NH Gives 2026

NH Gives is right around the corner (June 9–10), and this year, Community Bridges is raising funds to support our Family Grants initiative.

Family Grants are designed to help individuals and families access items or opportunities that support daily living, independence, and community connection—needs that often fall outside traditional funding sources.

We are currently in the process of building this program, and Family Grants are not yet available. Funds raised through NH Gives will help make this resource available in the future.

Our goal is to raise $3,000, with support from our Board of Directors, helping to build momentum through a matching gift.

For more details, including how you can get involved, visit https://www.nhgives.org/organization/Community-Bridges.
