Red Flags Before Handcuffs: Spotting

Bad Actors in the Market

Course Description:

This 1-hour Continuing Education course arms you with the know-how to protect yourself and your clients from the market’s bad actors and how to spot sketchy schemes before they spot you. You’ll learn how to check with the Department of Financial Services to confirm if a carrier is actually authorized to sell in the state. We’ll also cover the telltale signs when something sounds too good to be true—and might just earn you shiny bracelets with a chain between them. We’ll break down why the IRS, CMS, and DOL all care a lot about these arrangements. Protect your clients, your license, and your reputation—because “I didn’t know” is not a winning defense.

Do you know about the NABIP PAC?

NABIP PAC is the political action committee of NABIP. It is the expression of our First Amendment rights to free speech and association guaranteed under the Constitution. Such political expression has become far more than a useful option for professionals in a heavily regulated business like the health insurance industry. It has become a necessity.

NABIP PAC is registered with the Federal Election Commission. Since NABIP and similar organizations are prohibited from making political contributions, NABIP PAC was created to allow contributors to combine their financial support to a candidate to achieve maximum effect.

NABIP PAC's Mission:

The purpose of the NABIP's Political Action Committee (NABIP PAC) is to raise funds from NABIP members for the purpose of supporting the political campaigns of candidates who believe in private sector solutions for the health and financial security of all Americans.

Non NABIP members can only contribute to the Administrative Fund. For further information please contact Michael Schlossberg at Michael4ins@aol.com

Thank You to our Corporate Sponsors

The Leading Producers Round Table formed in 1942 to recognize the successful underwriters of Accident & Health Insurance. Earning the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant® (REBC®) designation elevates your credibility as a professional. The field of employee benefits continues to evolve rapidly. A year does not go by without new government regulations, new or modified coverages, and new techniques for controlling benefit costs. To best serve their clients, professionals need to have a current understanding of the provisions, advantages, and limitations associated with each type of benefit or program as a method for meeting economic security. The designation program analyzes group benefits with respect to the ACA environment, contract provisions, marketing, underwriting, rate making, plan design, cost containment, and alternative funding methods. The largest portion of this program is devoted to group medical expense plans that are a major concern to employers, as well as to employees. The remainder of course requirements include electives on topics serving various markets based on a broker’s client needs.

NABIP President's Triple Crown Program

NABIP has members across the country; you are the reason we exist. Your participation in lobbying and advocacy is the reason we've become a force in Washington and in state houses across the country. Your recruitment efforts are why membership is up 33% over the past five years. Your contribution of your time and talents is why we have over 200 chapters across the country.

We never want to take these efforts for granted because, without you, we would suffer the fate experienced by countless other nonprofit associations: declining numbers, shaky finances and a demoralized membership.

NABIP created the President's Triple Crown Program to recognize those members whose individual contributions help advance the association's mission. Like baseball's Triple Crown, it recognizes accomplishments in three key areas. However, while baseball's Triple Crown hasn't been won in years. NABIP's Triple Crown can be won every year by everyone of our members.

Criteria

To qualify for the Triple Crown, within the calendar year (01/01-12/31), a member must:

NABIP PAC: Participate in $12 x 12 draft program or contribute $150 total for the year
Membership: Recruit two or more new members
Advocacy: Use Operation Shout to send three or more messages

One, two, three -- it's that simple!

Recognition

Members who meet these criteria will be recognized in a variety of ways, including a unique "Triple Crown" lapel pin and recognition on NABIP's website.

Individually, the Triple Crown accomplishments are not difficult to do, but together they help reinforce our position as America's premier association for health and employee benefits professionals. Many members qualified in 2024, and we look forward to recognizing many more in 2025!
