VISION: Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) envisions a healthy and thriving community.


MISSION: Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) executes innovative strategies and unites communities in preventing substance misuse and promoting mental wellness throughout Genesee County.


The Genesee County Prevention Coalition maintains regular office hours Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. If you need assistance outside of these hours, please call 810-285-9047 to make arrangements. Our primary goal is to maintain access to prevention services and resources for our community through the Prevention Portal. Please reach out to us if we can be of assistance in providing information and support for addressing substance misuse and mental health concerns.

THE GCPC IS HIRING FOR A PREVENTION SPECIALIST

A Prevention Specialist will lead the coordination and implementation of substance use prevention programs and services in coordination with the GCPC Mission and Vision.


Description Summary: The Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) is looking for the right passionate, energetic, motivated person to join our team to make a difference in our community. Together, we support, empower and connect individuals, families and communities to prevent mental health and substance use disorders through active collaboration.

This position works primarily in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community-based and health education strategies to address substance misuse issues among youth and adults in Genesee County. You will deliver evidence-based strategies, with a focus on preventing vaping and supporting access to prevention resources and services.

DEA TAKE BACK DAY APRIL 25, 2026

10AM - 2PM

The Fenton Police Department is partnering for DEA Take Back Day to expand access for residents safely dispose of medications to avoid misuse. For this day only, this specific site will accept disposal of:

  • Prescription Pills
  • Needles
  • Patches
  • Inhalers
  • Liquid Medication


At drop-off receive:

  • Naloxone Training for Overdose Response
  • Safer Lock Storage Bags
  • Fentanyl Test Strips
  • Home Safety Kits
  • Sharps Storage Container

Canvas of Change Townhall

The GCPC invites residents to a Community Art Showcase and Town Hall on Mental Health and Substance Use Prevention. The town hall will take place for those that live or work in Argentine, Gaines, Mundy, Swartz Creek, Fenton, Lake Fenton, Linden and the surrounding area.
What to expect:
-Discussion on substance use and mental health concerns
-Connection with community leaders & partners
-Learning about local resources & programs
-Hearing youth voices through a student panel & art showcase
The event will bring the community together with local leaders to discuss our well-being.

Substance Use Impact Conference for Employers and Providers

April 23, 2026 | 8am-4pm


Attendees will have the opportunity to gain valuable resources, network, and acquire new skills in prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery efforts. The breakout sessions during the summit will fall into one of two tracks. Anyone is welcome to attend the sessions that are most interesting to them.

Michigan Harm Reduction Summit

April 30 - May 1 | Lansing, Mi


This summit brings together all public health, public safety, nurses, physicians, social workers, community health workers, therapists, health educators, and professionals working in the substance use space. People with lived and living experience are also encouraged to attend.

Virtual SAPST: SPF Application for Prevention Success Training

May 4, 7, 11, and 14 | 10am-4pm

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the Prevention Think Tank framework, focusing on the latest best practices, ethical standards, and key competencies necessary for effective prevention work. Participants will engage in foundational reviews of core ethical principles, such as confidentiality, boundaries, and professional integrity, while participating in discussions with ethical scenarios in real-world prevention settings.

Prevention Prepared Communities 101

May 28, 2026 | 8am-4pm

The Prevention Prepared Communities training is predicated on provider agency’s role and responsibility in producing outcomes (systems, behavioral, and process outcomes) utilizing the Strategic Prevention Framework as its guide for the individuals and communities they serve. Providers have been tasked with creating communities or systems of prevention where individuals, families, schools, faith-based organizations, and workplaces take action to promote emotional health and reduce the likelihood of mental illness, substance misuse, and suicide. (SAMHSA) This Prevention Prepared Communities (PPC) 101 training provides them with the capacity to do so.
