Earth Day in Grade 4

To celebrate Earth Day, 4th graders undertook an engineering challenge. Students worked in teams to create a model bridge that would not affect the habit of river-dwelling creatures. After a 5 minute planning time, teams worked quickly to assemble and test their structures. We evaluated the success of each team by calculating their bridge's marble per inch ratio. After testing the strength of each bridge, students reflected on what changes they would make if they were to modify their models

Food Drive Success! Thank You!!

Peabody school was once again a large part of the Neighbors 4 Neighbors school food drive that took place last month and included many public and private schools around the area.  All food donations will feed clients served by 45 of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s (BRAFB) partner pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in the Thomas Jefferson area. This includes the city of Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock.  This area food drive is led by Ryleigh Katstra, a 9th grade Albemarle High School student and our sixth grade students organized the Peabody part.

I am excited to announce that Peabody collected 443 pounds of food which will provide many meals for a large number of families in our area! In addition, Peabody came in 2nd place out of all the K – 8 schools! The entire drive collectively brought in  6, 145 pounds of food during the month of March, which will provide thousands of meals to families in the Thomas Jefferson service area! Thank you to the Peabody community for coming together to help eradicate hunger. Thank you to the 6th grade class for helping spread the word about hunger in our area. And a special shout out to Ms. Lastinger’s class who had the highest level of participation!

Peabody Alumni Win Second Place in Statewide Challenge

Steven Newman and Jonah Weissman are part of a team of students from Charlottesville High School who won second place in a statewide competition called the Student-Led Ideation Challenge. Teams of students from across the Commonwealth got a chance to explore real-world problems and offer solutions to issues facing education and agricultural systems, or consider challenges related to unmanned aviation vehicles, or UAVs. Teacher Appreciation Week
Of course, the next big PPF event this year is Teacher Appreciation Week!  Peabody will be observing May 1st through the 5th this year.  We have several things in the works including daily gifts/activities and a lunch to celebrate the teachers and staff that work so hard every day to take such good care of our kids.
This is funded completely from voluntary parent contributions.  Cash donations are encouraged and should be left in the PPF/suggestion locked box - that's the small black box at the top of the ramp in the original building. Please note, the office has been asked not to take contributions. They should only be placed in the locked box with a deadline of TUESDAY, APRIL 25th.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to get you an answer as quickly as possible.

Thank you!
