Sales Tax Holiday, April 23 - 25
Natural disasters will continue to happen. Prepare yourself during the 2022 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday for emergencies that can cause physical damage like hurricanes, flash floods and wildfires. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase, and you do not need to present an exemption certificate to claim the exemption.

Redistricting & Capital Improvement Projects District H Town Hall Meeting - April 25 @ 6 p.m.
Moody Park Community Center, 3725 Fulton
The District H Town Hall will take place on Monday, April 25th, in person at Moody Park Community Center (3725 Fulton, Houston 77009) and virtually on Microsoft Teams. Click here for the virtual meeting.
 
The goals of the City's Town Hall Meetings are to receive public input about redistricting and to share information about Capital Improvement Projects. Details about the redistricting process can be found on the Planning and Development Department’s website and in this committee presentation. Please view page 9 of the presentation to see what the 2020 Census determined current populations of all Council Districts to be and why District H will need boundary adjustments to come into compliance.

Free Mental Health Resources

The Harris County Commissioners Court has funded a new initiative that will offer mental health resources to the District H communities of Northline/Northside, Eastex-Jensen and Independence Heights.

Community Learning Circles equip community members with tools and training to support each other and strengthen community behavioral health and resiliency.

Maintenance and Repairs to White Oak Bayou
Over the next six months, Harris County Flood Control District will be conducting maintenance and repairs to short stretches of White Oak Bayou between Hogan Street and 43rd Street. The Hike-and-Bike Trails may also need to be closed for safety reasons while the work is being done.

METRO lifts mask requirement
Effective immediately, masks are optional throughout the METRO system, including at rail stations, transit centers, bus stops and inside METRO facilities. The lifting of this requirement also applies to METRO employees.

METRO's is removing all signage and messaging requiring masks on the transit system. During this time, operators and MPD officers will no longer instruct customers to adhere to the requirement.

METRO encourages its customers to make decisions that are in their best interest. The Authority will continue its rigorous daily and midday cleaning schedule, paying special attention to surfaces frequently touched by the public. Sanitizer dispensers are still available on all vehicles.
Second COVID booster is available
People over the age of 50 and certain immunocompromised individuals who received an initial booster dose at least four months ago are now eligible for the second COVID booster.

COVID testing, vaccination and boosters at Houston Health Department-operated sites remain FREE and do not require insurance.

HHD-operated sites are located across the city and can be found at HoustonHealth.org or by calling 832-393-4220.

The Greater Northside Management District's Butterfly Pocket Park on Fulton won the award for On-the-Ground Projects Under $500K in the 2020 Houston-Galveston Area Council Parks and Natural Areas Award Program. Each year, H-GAC honors projects that serve as models for planning and implementation for parks and natural areas in the region.
