Summer 2022 Beehive and Flood Awareness Guide Published

The Summer 2022 issue of The Beehive and Flood Awareness Guide has been published and should be arriving in mailboxes next week. You won't want to miss this issue, as it is full of activities for youth and adults for the summer! There is also a special section dedicated to storm preparedness and how to have your home or property ready in the event a flood occurs due to a storm.

Steele Earns Credentialed Manager Certification

Carol Steele, Acting County Administrator for Gloucester County, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the International City/County Management Association. Ms. Steele is one of over 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.

New Post on Money, Health and Other Things

Over the next few weeks, the Virginia Cooperative Extension will revisit its multi-part series on risk management and the basics of different insurance plans! Parks, Recreation and Tourism Happenings for the week of April 21, 2022

TOUCH A TRUCK
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Touch A Truck on May 14 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Woodville Park. Meet members of the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Department of Wildlife Resources, Gloucester Sheriff, Fire and Rescue. Explore trucks and tractors hands-on, meet the drivers and learn some great safety tips. On site lunch available through Papa Johns $. Program is free and pre-registration is required www.gloucesterva.info/civicrec by May 12.

FITNESS
Parks, Recreation & Tourism offers weekly Adult Fitness classes. On Monday’s schedule are EXERCISE from 9:00-10:00 am, CHAIR YOGA from 11:00-Noon and CHAIR YOGA from 12:45-1:45 pm, all Monday classes are $35 per month. Tuesday’s schedule includes FLOOR YOGA from 10:30-11:30 am and JUST BREATHE from 4:30-5:30 pm, both are $35 per month. Also on Tuesdays FREE FLOW YOGA, at the Whitcomb Lodge, is from 5:30-6:45 pm, the fee is $9 per day or $8/day for an entire month. Thursdays offer FLOOR YOGA from 10:30-1:30 am and JUST BREATHE from 6:00-7:00 pm, both are $35 per month. Fridays are EXERCISE from 9:00-10:00 am, fee $35 per month and CHAIR YOGA from 11:00-Noon, $9 per day or $8 per day for whole month. Unless noted otherwise, all classes are at the Stewart Building, 6382 Main Street, Gloucester, VA 23061 Main Street.

SUMMER CO-REC SOFTBALL
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Summer Co-rec Softball league for ages 15 and older. Play a 10-game schedule on Sundays from early June thru early August. Each team fields 5 men and 5 women and may bat 6 men and 6 women. The fee is $650 per team and the deadline to register is May 1.

WHIFFLEBALL, TEEBALL AND YOUTH SOFTBALL
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Whiffleball for ages 4-5 from June 28-July 28 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:30 pm, the fee is $27 and the deadline to register is May 1. T-ball for ages 6-7, Coach Pitch Softball for ages 8-10 and Kid Pitch Softball for ages 11-4 will be held from June 14-July 28 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm, the fee is $47 and the deadline is May 1. All ages are as of September 30, 2022.

FOOD SAFETY CERTIFICATION
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Food Safety Certification on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 17-26 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Stewart Building. This class satisfies the Gloucester County Ordinance for food service. The fee is $175.00 for the full class, test, book and answer sheet. For the test only the fee is $65, this includes answer sheet and test only. The registration deadline is May 2.

ZUMBA
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring ZUMBA on Mondays at Page and Wednesdays at Abingdon from 6:45-7:45 pm. The fee is $7 per day or $6 per day if you register for the whole month. Deadline is 1 week prior to class.
