According to the Transfer Advisory Committee, Community College students who transfer as juniors outperform students who start at universities. The average gpa for these students is 3.12, while the average gpa for a student who starts at a UNC system school is 3.02. Students who transfer as freshmen (less than 30 credits) average a 2.44 gpa while those who transfer as sophomores (30 or more credits) average a 2.70 gpa. Consider relaying this information to your advisees if they are weighing the pros and cons of transferring early!
