Baseball Dedicates T-Mobile Game to Bob
When the Beavers Baseball team hit the field for the annual High School Baseball Classic at T-Mobile, there wasn't a Ballard jersey in sight. That's because the squad proudly wore special "Thanks Bob" jersey t shirts, honoring the memory of Mariners Executive Bob Hellinger, who started the Baseball Classic 15 years ago and passed away unexpectedly in January.
"Bob was instrumental in the start of the High School Baseball Classic, and he’s fought for it over the years. Ballard is proud to participate for the 12th year now," said Coach Doug Montgomery.
"This event takes a ton of buy-in from the (Mariners) front office, the stadium operations, and notably the grounds crew. It has faced uncertainty over the years, and Bob always fought to make sure it happened. It's safe to say without his support, we wouldn't be playing at T-Mobile," he noted.
Wearing their special uniforms, the team secured a 4-1 win over Kentridge in front of grateful fans who enjoyed cheering for their favorite high school team in a pro league setting.
"That makes us 7-3 all-time at Safeco/T-Mobile. I've asked the Mariners to let us play all of our home games there. We'll see," Coach said.

Beavers Also Jr. Hockey National Champs!
With the Kraken making waves in their first playoff run, hockey fever seems to be sweeping the Northwest. Now two Beavers have a National Championship under their belts!
Seattle’s Sno-King Girls Junior Thunderbirds, with Ballard High sophomores Kennedy Jensen and Noel Bellabarba, won the USA Hockey Tier II Girls 16-and-Under National Championship earlier this month in Irvine, CA. They won 2-1 in the final match-up against a team from Rochester, NY. The Thunderbirds garnered the first national girls title for Washington state, after forming just three years ago (the same time their professional counterparts, the Kraken, hit the ice). They also won the Pacific Districts title earlier this year.
Thanks to Team Manager (and Kennedy's mom) Suzy Brillault-Jensen and Noel's mom, Jane Younge, for sharing this great news about Ballard athletes and Washington State Girls' Hockey! Congrats, Kennedy and Noel!
