for youth and seniors

Mayor Burton was joined by members of Council, Oakville Transit and residents to celebrate the free transit for youth (13-19) and seniors (65+) initiative coming in to place May 1, 2023.

Members of Oakville's senior community had the opportunity to tap their PRESTO cards and ride on the town's new EV buses.

“Providing free public transit for youth and seniors is an important investment Council is making to enhance transportation options for the overall well-being of our community.

"Removing the cost to travel on Oakville Transit means more people can get around town more easily and will increase uptake in transit usage. Free transit promotes sustainability and equity and supports Council’s continued efforts to create a thriving and livable Oakville.” – Mayor Rob Burton

discuss municipal priorities

Mayor Burton and members of the Ontario Big City Mayors Caucus met with Ministers to discuss key municipal priorities at its AGM and Conference in Kitchener late last week.

Topics of discussion included:

Housing
Mental Health, Addictions and Homelessness
Municipal Codes of Conduct

OBCM tabled a motion requesting the Government of Ontario expedite the process to fully unlock a municipality's ability to do their part to solve the housing supply crisis.

Oakville Rangers finish storybook

season with a storybook ending

It was a dark sight early in the morning on Sunday, April 23, in Kitchener, Ontario. Though it was just four floors up at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the Oakville Rangers U18 AA Hockey team felt they were 10,000 feet in the air, sick to their stomachs with anxiety.

Everyone knew this would be no easy championship game for either team. If you were to walk into that building 20 minutes before the puck dropped at the OHF final, you would see individuals from both teams looking out onto the ice, taking in that they would both lace up their skates and put on their team's jersey one last time.

Celebrate National Youth Week in Oakville from May 1 to 7, 2023!

The Town of Oakville and community partners are offering seven days of free fun and interactive activities and learning opportunities for youth ages 11 to 17.

In addition to the planned activities for National Youth Week, all drop-in programs offered between May 1 and 7 are free for youth aged 13 to 17.

Applications are now being accepted for the $2,500 Digital Transformation Grants! Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2023, or until funds are fully exhausted. There are a limited number of grants available, so businesses are encouraged to apply early!

It is free to apply and the process is simple:

Register your business at digitalmainstreet.ca/ontariogrants/ and complete the digital assessment.
Pass the pre-qualification quiz, complete the 2.5 hours of online training, and develop your Digital Transformation Plan.
Apply for a $2,500 grant.
