Event Details

Stop by the Pisani Center next Wednesday for a second pop-up open house introducing the Main Street Safety Improvement Project!

Drop by 131 Washington Street any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to talk to City staff, ask questions, and tell us what we can improve. Pizza will be provided for attendees.

We Want to Hear From You

We do not have a plan or design yet for this project, although we know that we are adding separated bike lanes and making improvements at intersections and crosswalks. To fit the separated bike lanes, we know that we will have to remove at least half of the parking.

At this phase of the project, we want to hear feedback to help us come up with draft designs. Help us by thinking about the following questions:

  • How do you currently use Main Street?
  • Do you have safety concerns while walking, riding, or driving in this section?
  • What are your thoughts about the existing bike facilities? What works? What doesn’t?
  • What types of parking and loading do you use here? What types are important to keep?
  • Which crossing locations work well? Which do you have concerns about?
  • Where should bus stops be located?
  • What can we do to improve traffic safety?

Can't Make It?

This event is informational, and no decisions will be made during the open house. Materials will be posted to the project webpage following the event. You can provide feedback in multiple ways, including through an online comment form or map. Check out the webpage for the latest ways to give feedback.

About the Project

The Main Street Safety Improvement Project will add separated bike lanes on Main Street between Massachusetts Avenue/Lafayette Square and Portland Street.

As part of this project, we will:

  • Install separated bike lanes in both directions, adding to the City's network of separated bike lanes.
  • Improve existing crosswalks.
  • Make changes to parking and loading.
  • Address safety at key intersections.
