Last week, Chris Hutson, Chair of the Gloucester Board of Supervisors; County Administrator Carol Steele and Deputy County Administrator George Bains traveled to Chester to follow Gloucester’s recycling materials and understand how the process works.


More information will be coming soon through our Clean Community Department on how Gloucester can improve on its recycling efforts. Stay tuned!


Emergency Management Launches Survey to Learn how to Better Assist Citizens

This week, Gloucester's Community Engagement & Public Information Department recognized all of its volunteers that make such positive impacts on our local youth on a daily basis! Dinner was donated by the Five Rivers Women's Club and gifts were donated by Brent & Becky's Bulbs. We so appreciate our dedicated volunteers and enjoyed spending the evening with them!

Parks, Recreation and Tourism Events for the Week Ahead


HUG A TREE AND SURVIVE

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring the Hug a Tree and Survive Program for ages 7 to 11 on Friday, May 5 from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Whitcomb Lodge. The program is free but pre-registration is required, the deadline is April 28.


PARK AFTER DARK

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Park After Dark on Friday, May 5 from 8:00-11:00 pm at Beaverdam park’s Main Entrance (only). Participate in fishing, boating or hiking after hours. All activities require head lamps. The fee is $5 and all rental fees apply, the deadline is April 28.


THE FULL HIKE

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring The Full Hike (9.5 miles) on Saturday, May 6 at 10:00 am. It’s a 9.5-mile hike so bring water and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. The registration fee is $5 and the deadline to register is April 29.


AGILITY 101

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Agility 101 for Dogs on Sunday, May 7 from 2:00-3:00 pm at Beaverdam. The fee is $46 and the deadline is April 30.


PACK WALK

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Pack Walk for Dogs on Sunday, May 7 from 3:30-4:30 pm at Beaverdam. The fee is $46 and the deadline is April 30.


ADULT CO-REC SOFTBALL

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring an Adult Softball League from June 4-August 6. Games are played on Sundays at Ark Park. The fee is $650 and the deadline April 30.


WHIFFLEBALL, TEEBALL, COACH PITCH AND KID PITCH SOFTBALL

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Whiffleball for ages 4-5, Teeball for ages 6-7, Coach Pitch Softball for ages 8-10 and Kid Pitch softball for ages 11-14 from June 13-July 27 (Whiffleball June 27-July 27). The fee is $30 for Whiffleball and $45 for the others. The registration deadline is April 30.


WALK WITH EASE

Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk with Ease program, May 8- July 14, at the Stewart Building. PRT won a grant from the National Recreation and Parks Association to have two instructors trained. This 6-week program was written specifically for those with arthritis but is a great resource for anyone. We will meet 3 times per week for an hour. Sessions include an informational element, stretching, walking, stretching. Wear comfy shoes and dress for the weather. Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 9:00-10:00 am. The fee is $55, which includes the WWE Book and the deadline to register is May 1.
