Mercer Lake Sprints

The 2023 Mercer Lake Sprints took place over the past weekend with 50 teams and nearly 650 entries! Despite some windy conditions, all races were completed on both Saturday and Sunday. Thanks to all the parents, volunteers, USRowing referees and Mercer County Park staff for making the event a huge success!

The Caspersen Rowing Center crews (Mercer, Lawrenceville, Peddie and Hun) earned a total of 14 medals from the event.

Joseph Koyfman, coxswain of the gold medal Mercer Boys Novice 8 said:

"The Mercer Lake Sprints was a great day for Mercer novice boys. Right from the start, our eight was up front and pressing forward. By the last 250 m, we were neck and neck with RNY, fighting for first. With a determined final push, we were able to get ahead and beat them out by just over a second. It was a first win for many in the boat and overall an awesome experience!"

Volunteers Needed for Outreach

We have two amazing outreach programs for Trenton Metropolitan Middle Schoolers this spring - the Swim to Row and STEM to Stern programs!

We are looking for volunteers who can help in a few key areas on Tuesdays and Thursdays in May (last class is Thursday, June 1).

The volunteer positions that need to be filled are:

On the water: Both coxswains and rowers are needed for on-water practices Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15-5:15

Erg Coach: Give instruction on basic erg technique to Trenton Middle School students. A schedule and plan will be provided for each practice.

Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00-6:45

Transportation Chaperone: Ride in the van to pick up and drop off students at local middle schools.

Van 1: 2:45-4:00

Van 2: 6:15-7:15

Adult Summer Rowing Opportunities

Our Learn to Row program will be offered again this summer. The program will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:45 to 7:15 pm starting June 20 through August 10. Option to sign up for one, two or three nights/week.

We will also be offering the adult barge class. This is a low-key, fun way to get out on the water, get some exercise and enjoy beautiful Mercer Lake (eagle sightings are a regular occurrence). Class size is limited to 8 people. There will be two weekly sessions, one hour each, on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Sean McCourt Boat Dedication

On Saturday, April 15, Mercer Rowing alumni and current rowers gathered at the Caspersen Rowing Center to dedicate the Sean McCourt women's 8. Sean was the Mercer Head Girls Coach and was instrumental in shaping the Mercer Junior Rowing program. Sean now coaches at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN and was back at Mercer racing the Mercer boys. It was a great day honoring a great coach!

Thanks to everyone who came to the boathouse for the ceremony.
