The May Shift

With the Easter season skipping along we find ourselves at the threshold of May. For the Church it is moving to the Spirit Feast of Pentecost and all the events that help wrap up and start new.
Our First Eucharist season has begun. We celebrated one Confirmation Mass and one more to go on Pentecost itself. Ordinations are upcoming, Deacon Marc Sheckells, OFM, and Paulist Deacons Richard Whitney, CSP and Michael Cruickshank, CSP all will be ordained priests on May 22. And all of us Paulist at OSM have anniversaries in May, but of special note Fr. Daniel McCotter will celebrate his 40th anniversary at Saturday Mass on May 15.
A couple of other Paulist events to note. See the information on HOPE FOR THE Future, the Paulist Comprehensive campaign. You are also invited to the Paulist National Pentecost Retreat: E Pluribus Unum ~ Unity in Diversity on May 15. See the details below; and check out the other happenings in this week's newsletter also.

A new movie version of the Our Lady of Fatima story will be at all AMC Theatres beginning
Friday May 7th at only $5 a ticket
Congratulations to
Brianna Marie Anderson, Christopher Cole Johnigan and
Sophie Jean Remenschneider
who were welcomed to the table of the Lord with the receipt of First Eucharist on Sunday, April 25th.
While we're excited to be gradually increasing our in-person attendance at weekend Masses, we need more help from liturgical ministers moving forward. If you're interested in serving as a lector, eucharistic minister, or especially a sacristan (or if you've served in any capacity prior to the pandemic and are ready to return to service), please contact Scott Williams at Any necessary training will be simple and brief, and we'll be able to accommodate your schedule, every little bit helps. Thank you!
Searching for additional Hope for the Future
campaign volunteers
Hope for the Future, a comprehensive campaign for the Paulist Fathers, will launch next month here at Old St. Mary’s. All parishioners will be invited to invest in the future of the Paulists. In addition to supporting the campaign financially, we are still seeking support through time and talent as well! As a campaign volunteer, individuals/couples will serve as ambassadors on behalf of Paulist President Fr. Eric Andrews and our pastor Fr. Brad to fellow parishioners.
Your role will include:
  • Only committing to 5-6 weeks of active campaigning in late-May and June.
  • Attending two meetings, which will be offered via Zoom.
— Volunteer orientation meetings are scheduled for Wednesday,
May 5 at 9:30 a.m. and Thursday, May 6 at 7 p.m.
  • Receive comprehensive campaign training.
  • Personally follow up with approximately 10 parishioners of your choosing to answer their questions and discuss the campaign. These can be done virtually, by phone or in- person in a safe, socially distanced manner – whatever you prefer.
  • Optional: Attend one meeting in June to learn about the progress of the campaign and report on the status of your follow-ups.
If you feel called to volunteer to help our parish in this landmark effort, please contact Father Brad or our parish chair,
Joice Pharris, at
and we can provide you additional details.

Please visit our website to register for Mass
You can also call 312-922-3444
Remember to call before 4 PM on Saturday to sign up for
Masses occurring that weekend

All Masses and liturgies have limited seating. You must make a reservation to attend. This is necessary for the purpose of contact tracing.

If you have recently traveled or a member of your family is sick with Covid or you or they are waiting for test results, PLEASE keep everyone safe and do not attend.

Remember, the dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation remains in effect until further notice. All of our Masses are livestreamed.

If you attend Mass and subsequently test positive for COVID-19, please contact the Church so we may let others know who attended that Mass of possible contamination.
