Updated Satellite Imagery Available on County Website
 
Gloucester County’s GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Department is pleased to announce that updated Pictometry imagery is now available on the County’s website. The latest oblique imagery captures up to three-inch accuracy.

The tool has also proven to be extremely popular with citizens and real estate professionals often using it to inspect current or prospective properties. According to the County’s analytics, the GIS page featuring the Pictometry is one of the top visited pages on the County’s website. 


Next Week Marks Hurricane Preparedness Week

The week of May 1-7 is Hurricane Preparedness Week in Virginia. Throughout the week, we will be sharing important information and amplifying messaging put out by the National Hurricane Center on https://www.facebook.com/gloucesterva and https://twitter.com/gloucesterva.

RCC Ed Foundation to Host Preakness Party

The Rappahannock Community College Educational Foundation will host the 18th annual Preakness Party to celebrate the running of the Preakness Stakes, on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. This year's event will be held at Kennersley on the Coan River located at 491 Oyster Road, Lottsburg, Virginia, in Northumberland County.
 
The Preakness Party will feature cocktails & hors d’oeuvres, live and silent auctions and a most audacious hat contest. The hat contest brings out the competitive spirit in many of the guests who don enormous, colorful hats. The all-inclusive tickets are $100/guest and 50% of the cost is tax-deductible. Preakness Party proceeds support the RCC scholarship program that provides more than $500,000 annually in awards to students, as well as other program needs not funded through state allocations.

Parks, Recreation and Tourism Happenings for the week of April 28, 2022

GYMNASTICS MINI SESSION
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a 4-week Mini Session of Gymnastics for beginner and intermediate students. Classes are held on Tuesdays at Botetourt beginning May 17 and ending June 7 or Wednesdays at Abingdon from May 18 to June 8. Open Registration begins on Thursday, April 28 for these classes. Space may be limited by the current student registration that ends on April 27. The fee is $30.

KARATE
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Karate at TC Walker on Mondays, May 9-July 18 or Thursdays, May 12-July 21, for ages 4 thru adults. Beginners ages 4-6 meet from 6-6:30 pm for $43, beginners ages 7-10 meet from 6:40-7:10 pm for $43, beginners ages 10-12 meet from 7:20-8:00 pm for $43. Intermediates ages 9-12 meet from 7:20-8:00 pm for $45. Advanced ages 9-12 and advanced all ages meet from meet from 8:10-9:00 pm for $47. Pre-registration is required and the deadline to register is May 13.

TOUCH A TRUCK
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Touch A Truck on May 14 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Woodville Park. Meet members of the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Department of Wildlife Resources, Gloucester Sheriff, Fire and Rescue. Explore trucks and tractors hands-on, meet the drivers and learn some great safety tips. On site lunch available through Papa Johns $. Program is Free and pre-registration is required www.gloucesterva.info/civicrec by May 12.

SUMMER CO-REC SOFTBALL
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring a Summer Co-rec Softball league for ages 15 and older. Play a 10-game schedule on Sundays from early June thru early August. Each team fields 5 men and 5 women and may bat 6 men and 6 women. The fee is $650 per team and the deadline to register is May 1.

WHIFFLEBALL, TEEBALL AND YOUTH SOFTBALL
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Whiffleball for ages 4-5 from June 28-July 28 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:30 pm, the fee is $27 and the deadline to register is May 1. T-ball for ages 6-7, Coach Pitch Softball for ages 8-10 and Kid Pitch Softball for ages 11-4 will be held from June 14-July 28 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm, the fee is $47 and the deadline is May 1. All ages are as of September 30, 2022.

FOOD SAFETY CERTIFICATION
Parks, Recreation & Tourism is sponsoring Food Safety Certification on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 17-26 from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Stewart Building. This class satisfies the Gloucester County Ordinance for food service. The fee is $175.00 for the full class, test, book and answer sheet. For the test only the fee is $65, this includes answer sheet and test only. The registration deadline is May 2.
Remember, pre-registration is required for all activities.
