Track & Field 2022
April 4, 2022

We had another great track meet and I am so proud of the Coaches, athletes, and parents for all their help. It is very challenging having teams host at our home but we make it work! This week our Tuesday practice has been moved to Castaic High, due to activities at COC. Our lights were picked up last week so practice will be over a little early, about 7:30 until the daylight returns. Please come a little early.
I know many of you will be out next week for spring break, you can still go to the meet if you return in time. At this meet we will only be allowed 2 tents per club in the stands on the front side and I will bring them. If you would like to have a personal tent or umbrella you will need to set up on the back side bleachers, as there will be 15 teams there.
Next week will be a very large Invitational held over 2 days. This will be very long on the Saturday and events will be spilt up so please see the flyer below. Some athletes will not like this meet as it is very competitive, but all are invited!

Please Sign Up to Volunteer This week we will have timing duties, data input, finish line, relay judges and escort duties at the meet.

Saturday Meet- This Saturday will be a very different meet schedule as all athletes from the 15 VYC teams are invited to come.

This Week's Track Meet
This week is a 2 day all Valley Youth Conference Invitational held at Simi Valley High School.  Please copy the event schedule so you will know the order of events. The top 8 athletes in the 100 and the 4X100 relay will return on Sunday to compete in a finals. We do have a new event on Sunday. The 4X800 relay will be ran for the only time!!

Medals are awarded at the meet to the Top 3 over all finishers in each event, (not in each heat) at the meet, with all others getting their ribbons at practice. This is the only time that all 15 teams will compete in an open meet. It is a very competitive event and not all athletes will enjoy it. It is a a great meet to get P.R.’s, but it is extremely long and competitive, and some athletes may not be ready for it. No Coaches or parents will be allowed in staging or on the field. Sub Gremlins will need to be more independent with no help so please decide if your athlete is ready for this type of competition. Please check with the coaches if you are unsure.

Saturday will start promptly at 8:30 am and last until about 6:00 pm if you do the 200 meters this is a very long day but you will not have to be there all day depending on the event you choose. Parking will take extra time. the relays will be later than usual so your do not have to be there first thing in the morning. It will be very hard to judge the time frame but here is a rough estimate
arrival time
3000 meter - 8:00
Hurdles 8:30 warm up
100 meter 9:00 - Sub Gremlin, Gremlin and Bantams on the backside starting during the Hurdles
100 meter 9:30 - Midget, youth, 15-18 front side

200 meter 1:00 - all athletes
Field event times are on the flyer Long Jump and Shot put will be open pits that your athletes can start at anytime during the hours listed High Jump will run in regular age group order starting with Bantams

As I said these are very rough arrival times and I do encourage you do get to the event earlier than estimated times as this is a very fun meet to watch!

Sunday will start at 8:30 and be finished around 2:30 pm.

Your child is limited to  2 individual events and a relay, or 2 relays & 1 individual event. Intermediates 15-18 may compete in 3 Individual Events.

Field events are timed open pit, which means that athletes must compete within the time slots for that event.

ATHLETES WHO OVER EVENT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM ALL THEIR EVENTS AT THE MEET.

Results for all meets can be found on our website under the "Track and Field " tab on top of the web site. We also will be updating results during the meet to livetrackresults.com! All Storm records and top 10 is also under the track and field page on runstrom.org

If you think there is a problem with any result please contact Alan by Sunday evening so he can review it. alan@runstorm.org Most issues can be reviewed and fixed if needed, but we need to make all changes by Monday to get the ribbons out in time.

Events can be changed at the meet if needed.
If you have any questions about the number of events please ask your coach. The conference has a very strict policy about over events, the athlete will be Disqualified in all events of the day if they compete in too many events at a meet.

Relay Expectations
Many parents are asking how relays are determined, here is a brief description on how this is done. There were some very disappointed athletes at the meet because those who did not stay, or arrive on time for their team, and those who forget to sign up, but wanted to be added. Those who were there and did not get on a team will try to make sure they are on a team in future week.
It is very important to the team that if your athlete signs up for a relay that they are at the meet and checked in before 8:30 am so the coaches can assemble the teams. If your child is signed up for a relay and does not show up, or is late, it will effect every other relay runner, and disappoint those who can not compete.

This is the only event that we are strict on signing up for. Please don’t sign up for the relay if your athlete can not compete in the event.

Criteria for relay team assignment.
1) coaches discretion
2) attending practice
3) able to hand off smoothly
4) Time in the 100 meters at a meet

All of this is considered when coaches put together their teams (A-Team, B-Team, C-Team, etc…).

If you have any questions about this please speak with your age group coach or Coach Elaine
Scholastic Awards Forms

The medal is engraved with the student's name, year and symbol of the sport in which he/she is participating. A special President's Award Medal is presented to players that maintain straight A's.

The Deadline for turning in the form is April 21st, 2019   You can either turn in a current report card with your child's age group, or download the form and have their teacher fill it out !

Team Fundraiser Opportunity

The STORM team has been met with unexpected expenses this spring and we have been reluctant to request any fundraising, but an opportunity is available that can benefit you and your family and the STORM family.

A local swim school with participants in STORM has offered to help fund-raise with a profit-sharing opportunity. The Swim Ranch is a private learn-to-swim and performance swim instruction service. The results are unmatched in the region. If you have your own pool, go to the ocean … there is no doubt that swimming is very important for basic safety.

We consider this option especially beneficial because the skill of knowing how to swim correctly promotes fitness and safety across all ages.

Let them know that you are members of STORM and they will donate 20% directly to the team.
Lessons are private or semiprivate (when applicable). Please visit their website for more information at www.theswimranch.com or contact Dave and Heather directly at theswimranch@gmail.com.
