Congregational Zoom Discussion
Stanley School Project -
Congregational Zoom Discussion
April 11 - 7pm

There will be a congregational conversation about the proposed Stanley School project and its impact on our church at 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 11. We will provide a Zoom link next week. Only participants from our congregation will be admitted from the Zoom waiting room.
The Town of Swampscott is planning to build a new consolidated elementary school on the site of the existing school and playing fields behind our church. The Town wants an easement through our back parking lot and entry drive to use as an exit road for school traffic during morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up times. They also want an easement to build a walkway for pedestrians and bicycles through the wooded median area between our parking lots.
Click here to see a drawing of the proposed route through the church property.
Please join us on the 11th to learn more. There will be an opportunity to ask questions on the zoom call, but if you have questions now, you can submit them to us in advance (at office@uucgl.org), so that we can make sure to address them.

Together In Spirit - Pledge Campaign

Pledges are arriving daily from our church community and we are on our way to another successful pledge campaign year! There are several ways you can pledge - mail in your pledge cards; or email to mypledge@uucgl.org; or go online at www.uucgl.org/pledge.
Thank you for pledging soon so that while Together In Spirit we can continue to support the programs and services provided by UUCGL.

You make a difference!

Church Use Request Procedure

While we are still not holding regular services or meetings at the church, we have had some requests for one-time events. All requests must be reviewed and approved before use of our building or grounds. To request use of church property for an event, information can be found at Church Use Requests on our website.

Support Our Fundraiser for ECCO

In May, our church will be holding a week-long online auction to raise funds for a community organizer position at ECCO (Essex County Community Organization). We are looking for donations of items or services to be auctioned. Examples include gift cards, crafted items, services (like dog walking), and the like (such as fresh backyard chicken eggs).
If you have something to donate, please email Michael Celona (michaelcelona@yahoo.com) and Debbie Boggs (daboggs@gmail.com).
More details will follow shortly. Thanks!

Help Our Neighbors Fight Hunger!

Food insecurity is on the rise due to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic!

Throughout these pandemic winter months, it has been heartening to see the activity on My Brother’s Table’s sign-up calendar. The response from the greater Lynn community has been unwavering. Every week, individuals and groups prepare 2,000 brown bags to supplement the hot meals provided by MBT. Members of the UUCGL community contributed 575 brown bags in the month of February.
April’s calendar is filling up fast and May is open for sign-ups. If you are interested in putting together brown bags, either individually or with a team, or if you would like to donate towards this effort, please be in touch.

Social Justice Ministry Team News

“Justice is what love looks like in public.”
~Cornel West

Three members of our Social Justice Ministry Team – Martha Curry, Bruce Campbell and Jack Butterworth – recently attended an ECCO Zoom meeting to discuss priorities for ECCO’s Beloved Economy program. Two areas were discussed – community policing and racial profiling and minority access to capital, which involves investing in ways that benefit minority communities on the North Shore. Residents of Swampscott, Marblehead and Salem participated.
What racial or economic or social justice have you been reading, listening or watching or talking about? Email us your thoughts and recommendations at sjmt@uucgl.org. Let’s start a conversation!
