Reminder: Texas Inventory Tax Exemption Expanded (HB 9 / Proposition 9)

Texas voters approved a major increase to the business personal property tax exemption, providing meaningful local tax relief to businesses with inventory beginning in 2026.

Overview

Texas Legislature passed HB 9, approved by voters as Proposition 9 (Nov. 2025)
Applies to inventory and tangible business personal property
Effective January 1, 2026

Key Changes

Exemption increased from $2,500 → $125,000 in taxable value
Applies to:
Inventory held for sale or other tangible personal property used in the production of income.
