April 6 Greetings

Dear Ones,

It’s Tuesday, in the first week after Easter, as we continue to “Be Church Together” even as the church building is closed for gatherings.

The women of the Tuesday morning Bible Study group has finished reading their book, Forgiveness: A Lenten Study and is taking two weeks off. We will resume on Tuesday, April 20 at 10am on Zoom reading: The Very Good Gospel: How Everything Wrong Can Be Made Right by Lisa Sharon Harper.

Harper, a woman of color, wrote the book in 2016 and is known as a prolific speaker, activist, playwright, and the author of several books. The Huffington Post cited her as one of 50 Powerful Women Religious Leaders and she is considered one of the nation’s most influential voices on a faith-rooted approach to advocacy.

A Very Good Gospel reveals God’s eternal vision of shalom for all creation and declares the breath of God’s Word. The book can be purchased through Amazon or let me know if you need help ordering it. If you haven’t tried a Zoom small group, give it a try!

I am still feeling the joy of our Easter parking lot worship! It was great to see so many folks that I have missed so much. Next week it should be cooler, the weather app on my phone predicts partly cloudy and 75 degrees for Sunday.

We plan to continue worship outdoors until we are able to have indoor worship, now that the weather has begun to warm up. We will continue to meet at 1:00 p.m. until the warm weather stabilizes. Bring your own chairs and join us! Next Sunday’s recorded worship will be provided by the synod. Emmanuel members provided a recording of the Gospel Acclamation; look for us before the reading of the gospel!

I think the drumming during the opening of our recorded worship services has been a meaningful addition. If you would like to be a drummer, please let our music director, Gene Fougner, know! It’s really fun and doesn’t take a lot of time. We hope to continue the tradition into our live-stream experience as well.

The Crosby Family sings, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”.

For a little levity: you can always count on M*A*S*H to make you smile, here is a video that finds answers to burning questions about life issues.

The church office is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; don’t hesitate to call me (310-890-9785) or the church office (928-772-4135) if you need something, and email [email protected] if you have something to share.

Please make good choices regarding your safety and others’. Wear your mask, keep your distance, stay at home if you are at risk or not feeling well, wash your hands, and sign up to get vaccinated as soon as you can. Call the church office if you need help arranging a vaccination appointment. Precious ones; choose love, to care for your neighbor and yourself by staying safe.

Spring is definitely here; this picture was taken by Joe Giordano. Send me your pictures of where you see spring!

A Bible verse for today:

Happy are the people to whom such blessings fall; happy are the people whose God is the Lord.

Psalm 144:15

Yours in Christ,
