April 6th Covid-19 Update
Dear Eastside Members,

Oregon Youth Soccer Association has announced that the remainder of OYSA Winter League, Spring League, and Spring Development League are canceled. They also announced that 2020 State Cup, President's Cup, and Founder's Cup are canceled. Please see email below from Mike Smith, OYSA League President.  

Clearly this is very sad news for soccer in Oregon in the short term. For practical purposes, this means that all April and early May on field activities are not just postponed but are canceled. This includes tryouts, which usually occur in the first two weeks of May and will have to be pushed back. The timeframe for our next tryouts are being discussed with OYSA and Member clubs to determine the most appropriate timeframe for a return to the field. We will keep you updated with this information when we gather more details.

This message will also raise questions about player fees that were paid for the 2019-20 season. OYSA has assured us it is working on refunds to member clubs over the next 2-3 weeks. I am in contact with our Executive Director Joey Leonetti and our Executive Board about how to best handle this. We are considering how challenging this time is for all of our players and families while also planning for an uncertain future for our non-profit soccer club. We will be in touch soon about how we will manage fees that you paid to cover training and games that our players no longer get to participate in. Please understand that we are working on this already and hold off on contacting us with questions. 

Through all of this, our top priority is the health and safety of our members. We will continue to work with our coaches and players to maintain a fun connection to soccer even though we aren't engaged in normal soccer activities. If you visit our webpage using the link below, we have gathered some excellent technical training exercises that players can continue to work on at home. OYSA Message from League President, Mike Smith
Dear Club Technical Directors, President’s, Coaches, & Administrators:

All of us at the Timbers/Thorns-OYSA Leagues hope that you are all practicing physical distancing and that you and your families are still staying safe during this period.

As we said in our last couple of updates, our main priority is the safety and well-being of our players, coaches, referees, administrators and families. We are continually monitoring the Oregon and Washington State Public Health Authority information, as well as Governor announcements, so we can quickly make informed decisions regarding our return to play guidance.

Yesterday evening OYSA’s governing body, US Youth Soccer, released a programming and advisory memo outlining 4 core priorities for their members and families. It is well written and we are attaching the memo for you to read and send to your players and parents. In the letter they also announce the cancellation of both regional and national championships for 2020. With the continued uncertainty of when our clubs might return to play, together with OYSA we reluctantly decided to cancel the remainder of the PTTL Winter League, PTTL Spring League as well as the Spring Founders, Presidents and State Cups for 2020.
