The Colonial Youth Group is raising funds for their activities. Mail a check to the church office with Youth Event in the memo line.

Altar Flowers Suspended

Because, like so many other small businesses, Dalton Flower's has to close as a non-essential business we will not have altar flowers for at least the next 30 days. We had been showing them next to Pastor Aaron in the online worship service.

Food Donations

The need for food is greater than ever. Please be generous.

Monetary donations to Cross-Lines Community Services are always welcome since we can't fill the red wagon at Colonial each week.

Harvesters - The Community Food Network is encouraging the community to help by donating money. Every dollar donated helps ensure they have the food and resources on hand to meet any additional demand. It also helps get the food out more effectively and efficiently.

People in our church community have worked together to create a special Holy Holy Thursday worship service, which will be live at 7:00 p.m. on April 9 on Facebook Live and YouTube Live Streaming.

Before worship, there are a couple things you'll want to do to prepare:
  1. Have a small amount of vegetable or olive oil on a small plate or bowl for anointing.
  2. Have a bowl or basin with warm water, a wash cloth, and hand towel for handwashing.
  3. Have bread and cup ready for our Communion. We'll consecrate them in our service and take them together, after all God's Spirit is with us everywhere. And remember, everyone is welcome to take part in this holy meal.
This unique worship will transition us to our Easter celebration on Sunday.

Celebrate Easter With Us Online!

After the events of Holy Week, the disciples were devastated. They were in the midst of full-blown grief and disbelief. Into the heart of that grief came a stunning revelation - life had overcome death.

Love had won out over hate. God's faithfulness would build them up once again. God's love will bind them together. Is this possible for us?

In our Easter Sunday worship we will say, "Yes, it can!"
We will worship on both YouTube or Facebook Live at our traditional Easter times of 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Holy Week Pilgrimage Walk

Many of us are finding taking walks as a way of getting through these days. A pilgrimage is an ancient expression of faith. So, this year during Holy Week, Colonial Church is a pilgrimage site. At some point this week - perhaps on Good Friday - walk or drive over to Colonial Church and go through the circle drive out front. We will have prayer stations setup - you'll see the signs - for you to pause and reflect on your journey. Please observe physical distancing during your walk.

"Heart of the Matter" Breakfast Worship Series

"Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people." -Acts of the Apostles 2: 46-47

In the weeks following Easter, we are creating a "temple" of worship in our hearts, whether we can be physically together or not. By sharing in words and music and breathing and eating and moving together, we will stay connected. The earliest Christians worshiped in their homes before they had churches, and so will we, until we can meet again at Colonial Church. Because at the "heart of the matter," we are connected through the Spirit that makes us one in love.

As we connect over breakfast at 8:30 a.m. or 10:15 a.m. each week, we have a suggested item to eat together in our homes. During worship, we'll praise, pray, and dance (yes, each week has a dance number! ). Our worship is designed to help carry us through these days apart until we can be together again.

Colonial Stays Home Group

We now have a group on our Facebook page for you to share what you are doing during this stay-at-home period. Please share your stories and photos, whether it's something for a charity or a cause, schooling your kiddos, home improvements, whatever you may be doing. We will share a few in the Crier each week as well. Click here to join the group and see what your fellow Colonialites are doing!

Colonial Care Partners

Colonial's Care Partners is a program that helps people stay in touch and stay sane during the Coronavirus epidemic. The program matches interested people with a partner, both of whom agree to check in on one another every 48 hours. You can sign up at https://tinyurl.com/colonial-care-partner.

This is not just for people in the church community, but anyone. So share this widely. Because, as we often say: We're Better Together.

Coffee with the Pastor Now Online

The weekly Coffee with the Pastor that usually is at Einstein's at 9:30 am on Wednesdays has moved online. So, put on a pot of coffee and join Pastor Aaron at https://zoom.us/j/8796465039 from your computer or mobile device. You can also call in from your phone by dialing 669-900-6833 with Meeting ID: 879 646 5039.

Giving at Colonial

Even though the building is currently closed at Colonial, we are still picking up mail everyday. Counters will not be counting as often, but will still be making deposits.  Therefore, you may mail in your pledge checks, One Great Hour of Sharing, or any other payments and they will be processed.

An easier alternative is to send payments online.  You just fill in your banking information ( routing number and account number ) and your name and email and what fund you are paying ( Stewardship, food pantry, etc.) and the amount.

The link you use is https://colonialucc.breezechms.com/give/online

If you have any questions, you may email or call Heather in the office or Jayne Quimby, Financial Recorder.

Thursday Morning Hebrews Bible Study

Many Jewish Christians of the first century were regarded by still-skeptical family, friends and neighbors as dangerous, misguided and even disloyal to God. The letter to the Hebrews was written to show that you can't go back to an earlier stage but must press on eagerly to that is yet to come. Our weekly studies will be based on NT Wright's materials, we hope to find encouragement and assurance that pressing on, even in the face of such close and constant pressure to fall back, is its own reward.
Observing our sacred duty for social distance, we'll be meeting exclusively online - at least initially. From March 26-April 16, we'll meet at 10:30 a.m. online at https://zoom.us/j/8796465039 or call in by dialing (669) 900-6833 with Meeting ID: 879 646 5039

Pastor Aaron's 10th Anniversary

This coming June will mark Aaron Roberts' 10th anniversary as Colonial's pastor. To celebrate this occasion the Council is planning recognition of Aaron's service following the 8:30 and 10:15 a.m. worship services on June 7.

We will present Aaron with a special gift as well as funding for sabbatical and/or continuing education purposes. Anyone wishing to contribute to this effort is invited to make a donation through Heather at the church office, designating the gift "Aaron's 10th." Thank you for helping to honor Aaron.

Report from the Colonial Church Council

The Church Council met on March 22 via a video conference.  We decided that until the rules are relaxed on social distancing that the Church will remain closed except for mail pick-up and possibly some custodial work.  Heather is working remotely and can be reached by calling the church office or by email.  Aaron will be working remotely except for when he must be at the church; for example, while conducting Sunday services via YouTube.

The capital improvement campaign that we had been considering has been postponed indefinitely.  In the meantime we are getting a structural engineer to assess the moisture problem in the lower level so that we can consider options on moving ahead with that project.  We are also obtaining bids on the completion of the renovation in the kitchen in the Heritage room.  We will keep the congregation advised on progress made on these two projects.  Much will depend on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic downturn that will accompany it.
