METER READER

Our current meter reader, Aidan Morlock, will be heading off to college this Fall. The general-information section of the job description states:

“The Beaux Arts Water Department supplies water to the residents of the Town of Beaux Arts Village and bills customers every two months for the volume of water they use during that period as measured by the meter at each home. The Town hires one or two Water-Meter Readers to read the meters every other month according to a schedule established by the Town Clerk. That schedule requires meter readings during the latter part of the months of February, April, June, August, and October (every 8 to 9 weeks). The Town and the person(s) hired to read water meters will execute a service contract, which sets the compensation for the required tasks.”

To make the transition to a new meter reader simple, we are asking anyone 14 years or older to indicate their interest now to allow adequate time to review applications. If interested, please contact Clerk/Treasurer Spens.

INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THE TOWN COUNCIL?

The following position on the Town Council will be up for election this Fall: Mayor and Council Positions 1, 3, and 5. Candidate filing is online, opens on Monday May5th, and closes at 4pm on May 9th. For more information about filing online, please visit: https://cd.kingcounty.gov/en/dept/elections/for-candidates/online-candidate-filing. For more information about serving on the Beaux Arts Town Council, please come to the April 15th meeting or speak to a current member of the Council.

COUNCIL BUSINESS

The Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday March 11th to discuss/act on the following:

  • Middle Housing: Mayor Howes gave a brief update on current legislation related to Middle Housing. Town Planner Stacia Schroeder outlined the Planning Commission’s work on this topic, including insight into how they addressed state mandates. The Council will hold its first public hearing on this topic at the April 15th Council meeting.
  • Camping Regulations: Mayor Howes noted that the State Legislature is considering legislation that could impact the Town’s ability to regulate camping on public property. The Council decided to table further discussion until more is known.
  • Bellevue Franchise: City of Bellevue seeks a franchise for the water supply line that runs through Beaux Arts. Mayor Howes updated the Council on the status of negotiations.

The Council’s regular meeting in April will be delayed one week to accommodate Spring Break travel and will be held on April 15, 2025. That meeting will include the Council’s first public hearing to begin an in-depth review of proposed code changes recommended by the Planning Commission to include middle housing.
