Spring into OA workshops and retreats!

A turning point in my own recovery came after attending my first OA retreat. I find these programs so invigorating and a vital part of my program. In this newsletter, I've included several workshops and retreats coming up this spring and summer. I encourage you to check them out and I hope to see you there!

Step 4

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Tradition 4: Autonomy

How do we practice the Fourth Tradition?

  • Does our group always consider the welfare of OA as a whole in making group conscience decisions? Do we do the same when voting how to spend our group's money, when planning OA group activities, or in the way we operate our meetings?
  • Do we keep our group free of control or influence from outside of OA?
  • Do we practice the Principle of autonomy by taking responsibility for our own actions and avoiding attempts to control the actions of others?
  • Do we stop to consider that our group's attitudes and actions may mold many newcomers' first impressions of OA as a whole?

Living the Step Principles

Step 4: Courage

No longer needing to appear perfect, we can live our life more fully having the courage to face up to our mistakes and test our strengths in the challenges of life.

Hello Connecticut and Friends,

I want to share about how we've been carrying the message of OA recovery in our neighborhood.

As we work our 12th step, we started off in January by identifying a focus for the year on the initiatives of:

1. Following up with newcomers

2. Give newcomer support info from WSO to all meetings

3. Discuss strong meeting checklist within groups

4. "How to" roleplays, how to share at booths, with newcomers, friends in relapse

5. Share interest in service

We began a 15 week step study to strengthen personal recovery. We also consolidated zoom accounts to make the best use of our financial contributions, with gratitude to the new service role of Zoom Admin.

In February, our meetings participated in maintaining a healthy OA by considering the motions voiced by other worldwide members and submitting our agenda item feedback. Of the 13 items, all were selected by the worldwide fellowship for further discussion by delegates in May. CTIG also hosted a Unity With Diversity workshop for Unity Day.

In March, we explored the OA.org Document Library, a collection of 279 files available for any member, regarding finding recovery, holding on to recovery, sponsoring, keeping meetings and OA strong, spreading the word, etc.

We also ran a digital ad campaign in the Hartford Courant newspaper which piqued the interest of 25 visitors to our website. Professionals Outreach has continued to put OA pamphlets into the hands of CT medical professionals and cultivate an understanding of OA as a resource for their patients and clients.

CTIG has contributed a scholarship for the June Southwestern Connecticut Tranquility Retreat (registration ends May 30th), and Region 6 offers scholarship applications for the October Region 6 Convention.

We continue to welcome IG reps tagging in for their meetings, volunteers for upcoming health fair tables, speakers for our speaker bank/workshops/convention, sponsors for our sponsor bank. Thank you to those who contribute writing, event invites, and meeting updates with us. We are rich in the recovery services we share with one another.

Looking forward to what unfolds from our Higher Power's will in this upcoming season together.

Michelle N, CTIG Chair
