East Parker County Day at the Capitol
On March 20, 2019, delegates from East Parker County traveled to Austin for East Parker County Day at the Texas State Capitol. Organized by the East Parker County Chamber’s Governmental Affairs Committee, mayors and constituents from Aledo, Hudson Oaks, Willow Park, Annetta, Annetta North, Annetta South and Weatherford, spent the day with a legislative agenda focused on important issues affecting the business and local community. Joining the East Parker County group were representatives from Aledo ISD Administration, Board of Trustees, Aledo ISD Education Foundation and the Aledo High School Football Team. In all, over 80 individuals represented East Parker County.

State Representative Phil King and State Senator Pat Fallon began the day by recognizing both groups in the House of Representatives and State Senate. Afterwards, the delegation met with stakeholders to discuss current issues impacting the community such as water, transportation, and education. The following representatives provided a legislative update on the aforementioned topics: Kathleen Ligon, Senior Policy Analyst with Texas Water Department Board; Brian Barth, Director of Project Planning Development with the Texas Department of Transportation; and Judd Messer, Chief of Staff – Texas House of Representatives Trent Ashby.

The day concluded with a dinner at Austin Land and Cattle with State Representative Phil King and Senator Pat Fallon and was followed by a night tour of the Texas State Capitol.

The East Parker County Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee was formed in 2015 to develop plans and strategies to ensure that Chamber members are kept informed of federal and state legislative issues affecting the business and local community. Their purpose is three-fold: to provide members with up-to-date, objective information on existing or upcoming state and federal legislation that will have an impact on businesses, employers and employees; keep the Chamber Board informed of issues relevant to the Chamber constituency; and maintain working relationships with elected representatives on the state and federal level for the East Parker County area.
