Congrats RCIA Class of 2017

Congratulations to our RCIA class of 2017!  This year, we had a total of 22 people participate in RCIA and become Catholic, or complete their Sacraments of Initiation by being Confirmed in the Church.

Seven of our participants were Catechumen who received all three Sacraments of Initiation into the Church at the Easter Vigil (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist).  They are pictured in the front row from left to right:
Chuck Day, Josh Hammer, Valerie Gage, Crystal Davis, Stacie Williams, Jeff Witwer and Dean Grant.

Nine of them were Candidates, meaning they had already been baptized within another Christian denomination and received the last two Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil (Confirmation and Eucharist).  They are pictured in the second row from left to right: Elizabeth Melnik, Felicia Glier, Megan Case, Jennifer Fernandez , Kathleen Handley, Jennifer Linn ; and in the third row: Dane Ford, John Lamb and Andy Lee.

In addition, and not pictured here, we had six people who had been baptized and received first Eucharist in the Catholic Church, but were never Confirmed.  They joined us for RCIA prior to their Confirmations which were received by Bishop Campbell at the Cathedral.  They are:  Jason Knapp, Andrew Muresan, Jeff McNulty, John and Phillip Perez and Duy Trinh.

Congratulations to all and welcome to St. Brigid.  Best of luck to those who are preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage!

Tuesday Mornings: Romero

This is the final Tuesday Morning series until September.  The focus will be on Archbishop Oscar Romero.  Archbishop Romero (on the way to being St. Oscar Romero), the pastor-defender of the poor and a great witness of the faith, will inspire and encourage us.  Over four Tuesdays we will look at this fascinating man as well as other martyrs of El Salvador.  We meet in the Berry Room of Hendricks Hall after the 9:00 AM Mass (about 9:45 AM).  May 2 and 9 (9:45 AM - 11:15AM) May 16 (9:45 AM -11:45 AM) (time change because we will watch the movie Romero) and May 23 (9:45 AM - 11:15AM).

Contact Sister Teresa Tuite, OP at [email protected] with questions or for more info.

GARRETT NERONE is the Guardian of the Golden Halo until 2018.

It's hard to believe our Lent Madness journey has reached its inevitable end. We kicked things off on "Ash Thursday" with 32 saints and other really good people. It came down to two people, who many considered to be "dark horses": Franz Jägerstätter and Florence Nightingale. In the end, Florence Nightingale took the coveted Golden Halo.

Along with Garrett Nerone, we had five others who chose Florence Nightingale to win the Golden Halo: Karen Cremeans, Christian Hernandez, Matiana Medina, Sister Joye and Sister Teresa.

Regardless of the ultimate outcome, we've met some truly remarkable holy people along the way. Many learned about some folks they had never heard of; some renewed acquaintances with saints who have long offered inspiration. Of course, the entire notion of placing saints in a bracket is absurd - each "contestant" has already earned a crown of righteousness in addition to a "golden halo." But at the heart of Lent Madness is the abiding conviction that encountering those who have come before us in the faith enriches and enlivens our own walk with the risen Christ.

In the process of this whimsical Lenten devotion we've all made some new online friends, encountered a community of believers who take their faith but not themselves too seriously, learned some things, were inspired by saintly witnesses, and hopefully had some fun along the way. We gave $300 dollars to Operation Rice Bowl and Garrett is giving his 25% to  Catholic Social Services Thank you to all who participated and hopefully more will join in next Lent.

New Push Button Access To Church

In an effort to throw open our doors in hospitality to all, we are delighted to announce we now have accessible entry for our parish family and visitors! Many thanks to the Alfonsi family who enthusiastically supported the idea and gave generously to cover the costs.

Push button access to the church can be found near the large glass doors facing the parking lot (west side of church). Push button access to the Pastoral Center is under the covered entrance facing the bell tower. Both buildings also have push button access to the restrooms. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have concerns about the location of the buttons or their functionality.

New Preschool Class Offerings for 2017-18

We're excited to let you know about some new class offerings in our preschool! In response to growing demand for longer class times and additional class offerings, we have restructured and expanded our class schedule for the 2017-18 school year. Also new this year, we are excited to offer "Wolfhound Adventures" -- optional learning activities parents can sign up for on an individual basis (this schedule and registration will be available in August). Another benefit of our new program is that restructuring our class schedule has allowed us to restructure our tuition schedule.

If you have younger children at home considering preschool, or friends or family considering preschool, take a look at our new offerings. If you would like more information or would like to set up a tour, contact preschool director Maureen DiDomenico at
mrs.didomenico@stbrigid-school.org or  (614) 718-5825.
