Long Beach Transit Turns 60

Long Beach Transit is celebrating 60 years of connecting communities this year! As we celebrate our Diamond Anniversary, we look forward to sharing information on our history and what’s in store for the future as LBT grows its zero-emission fleet.

Stay connected with LBT on our social channels and by reading this newsletter every month, where we will be highlighting milestones in our history and featuring fun LBT facts.

Looking Back – LBT Moves to Cambodia Town Headquarters

In 1974, Long Beach Transit moved into our current administration building at Anaheim St. and Cherry Ave. LBT’s second facility, which was established in 1998, in North Long Beach and is the larger of the two bus yards.

After nearly five decades of being a home base for LBT’s administrative team, the agency will be moving to corporate offices near the Long Beach Airport later this year. The new space will accommodate the agency’s growing team and the current bus yards in North and Central Long Beach will be modernized to accommodate LBT’s growing fleet of zero-emission buses.

At the location on Anaheim St., LBT is installing additional charging stations for its battery-electric buses, and future modernization includes solar power and expanded maintenance bays. The goal is for LBT to grow sustainably with clean energy to power its green fleet.

Starting with LBT’s first administrative building near MacArthur Park, to its current bus yards and the new corporate offices, LBT has grown significantly, and we look forward to continuing to meet the needs of the customers and communities we serve.

LBT Kicks Off 60th Anniversary

On Friday, March 31, LBT commemorated 60 years of connecting communities with a ceremony recognizing LBT’s partners. The event honored LBT’s history while looking to the future as our organization grows our sustainable fleet to meet the needs of the communities we serve.

Local and regional elected representatives and industry leaders were also given a tour of our facility at Anaheim St. and Cherry Ave., highlighting the installation of additional charging ports to accommodate the growing fleet and the future modernization projects that will take place at the facility.

Cambodia Town Parade and Festival

On Sunday, April 2, LBT participated in Long Beach’s 15th Annual Cambodia Town Parade and Culture Festival. This year’s theme, “Stop hate with love”, brought the community together to celebrate the diversity of Long Beach and celebrate the Cambodian New Year.

LBT team members decorated a new battery-electric bus and greeted the attendees in the crowd. The event showcased LBT’s sustainable fleet and partnership with the communities we serve. At the festival, the team connected with community members about LBT’s programs and services.
