Henry has performed his stand up and twisted songs on Comedy Central Presents, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and as a regular on the Bob and Tom Show. You may also recognize him as “John the Server Guy” on HBO’s Silicon Valley, or as the star of the cult film “Punching the Clown”. But die hard fans will know him from his YouTube cooking series, Henry’s Kitchen, which has garnered millions of views worldwide.

Red Hot Chilli Pipers

April 5

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are from, you guessed it, Scotland. They became famous internationally after appearing on a BBC show called, "When Will I Be Famous" in 2007.

The group mixes guitars, keyboards, drums, and, of course, bagpipes to create their "bagrock" sound. You may recognize covers they've performed including "We Will Rock You" by Queen, "Clocks" by Coldplay, and "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey.

Live at Tama!

Seeking Farmers Market Vendors

The Jefferson Street Farmers Market Steering Committee is offering a discount to returning seasonal vendors who sign up in advance, as well as for new seasonal vendors - only $160 a space for the entire 22-week season. This rate is through April 1.

The market will take place on Jefferson Street on Thursdays from 4:30 to 7 PM beginning May 2.

Jazz Reach: Metta Quintet and WBHS Jazz Band

Jazz Reach returns from NYC for three day residency at The Capitol Theater. The visit concludes with a free and open to the public concert featuring Jazz Reach's Metta Quintet + the West Burlington High School Jazz Band.



Students are currently rehearsing tunes that they will rehearse alongside these world class musicians before performing for the community.

Free Family Art Day

Celebrating the art and life of Jean-Michel Basquait. The Art Center of Burlington is excited to offer complimentary programming alongside this year's JAZZ REACH residency, presented by the Capitol Theater this April. 

As part of this year's Jazz Reach initiative, the community and students from Burlington schools will delve into the fascinating intersection between the enigmatic art of painter Jean-Michel Basquiat and the rhythmic world of Bebop Jazz. Their presentation titled 'Jean-Michel and the Be Bop Kings' at the Capitol Theater early in the week will engage students in the mutual influence these art forms had on one another. These presentations will take place from April 8th-10th. 

Join ACB on Saturday April 13 from 10-2 PM for an exciting finale to the week's residency. Families are invited to participate in multiple Basquiat-inspired art activities + enter to win door prizes.

Blade Sign Grant

Downtown Partners, Inc. Business Signage Grant Program offers applicants up to $300 in matching grant funds for perpendicular “blade” signage for their businesses!

Blade signs have several benefits:

• Accentuating the traditional historic and walkable character of Downtown Burlington
• Emphasizing the Downtown district as a collection of small, independent, locally owned businesses
• Adding to the liveliness of the streetscape
• Freeing up sidewalk space occupied by sandwich board signs
• Encouraging businesses to explore their individuality and examine their branding
• Increasing business visibility for potential customers who would otherwise not know anything about the business unless they were directly in front of it

2024 Open 4 Business Competition

With Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Downtown Partners, Inc. presents the Open 4 Business Competition for a for-profit business located in the Main Street 

district. Each of the state’s Main Street organizations 

can nominate one business. If you have been in business since May 1, 2023 and are either currently or planning to be located in Downtown Burlington, you qualify!

The Beancounter Coffeehouse & Drinkery was awarded $15,500 for their addition of Boba Tea in 2022.

A complete application must be submitted by April 1. Downtown Partners, Inc. will choose a contestant for the June 12 semifinal judging to compete for a chance at $8,000. The five finalists will then present their ideas in a statewide contest at the Iowa Downtown Conference on August 5 for up to an additional $20,000 in funding.

Applicants will be required to complete an online 

application and submit a three minute "video pitch" 

about their business idea.
