Early Intervention Team Helps Family Enjoy Story Time
|
|
Bobby and his family are working with their Early Intervention team to implement strategies that will keep him engaged in group activities like story time.
|
|
By Sandy Dempsey, Family Resource Coordinator
Encompass Birth to Three Early Intervention supports family priorities around everyday routines and activities. During our planning and goal-setting process, one mom expressed a priority to participate in story time at the library with her two-year-old son, Bobby, noting it has been difficult in the past to keep his body calm and engaged for this activity.
We have worked with the family on teaching calming strategies, building Bobby’s language skills, and providing opportunities for him to practice group participation and structured routines through a weekly playgroup.
Knowing that story time was a family priority, the educator on Bobby’s Early Intervention team planned a visit to story time with the family. Together, they brainstormed potential challenges and proactive solutions: selecting a library layout that might eliminate distractions, supporting Bobby with child-friendly language so he knows what to expect next, and bringing fidgets to keep him seated and engaged.
With this extra support and planning, Bobby and mom enjoyed a successful story time and plan to return!

Encompass One of Valley Agencies Awarded "Communities of Opportunity" Grant from King County
|
Encompass is thrilled to be one of the organizations awarded a King County Best Starts for Kids Communities of Opportunity grant as part of the “Snoqualmie Valley Supportive Community for All” Project. The other organizations involved in the project are
Hopelink,
Mt. Si Senior Center,
the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank, and
Snoqualmie Valley Community Network.
"Snoqualmie Valley Supportive Community for All" will strengthen community connections by building an inclusive coalition of agencies to better coordinate human services across the region. The Valley’s rural geography, coupled with small municipal governments and funding, can make it a challenge for families to get the help they need. As a result, the Valley’s most vulnerable remain at the margins of the community, unable to access the resources that exist.
King County's Best Starts for Kids "Communities of Opportunity" (COO) grant program helps neighborhoods and cultural communities build partnerships that contribute to better health, safe and affordable housing, economic opportunity and stronger community connections for residents.
