Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs
Executive function refers to skills that help us focus, plan, prioritize, work toward goals, self-regulate behaviors and emotions, adapt to new and unexpected situations, and ultimately engage in abstract thinking and planning. Just as a principal conductor would do for an orchestra, executive functions supervise and coordinate a multitude of cognitive, behavioral, and emotional tasks.

Executive functions in childhood are, by default, challenging. That’s because, although our executive function skills begin to develop in the first year of life, they are not fully developed until early adulthood.

Child Care Aware of NH, a program of SNHS, is excited to be offering Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs. This training helps adults understand and encourage important executive function-based skills children need to thrive. Executive function-based life skills involve managing thoughts, actions, and emotions to achieve goals.

This training is open to BOTH child care providers and parents/caregivers. For more information and to register, click the button below.

Five Reasons to Take a Break From Screens
Screen-Free Week is coming up from May 1st through the 7th. Although it can feel like Screen-Free Week is about going without, it's really about what you can get.

This is a great opportunity to put down our smart devices, turn off the televisions, and find something outside of screen time. Maybe you'll meet up with a friend you haven't seen for a bit, or maybe you'll get outside for some fresh air and sunshine.

No matter what you do, there are some great benefits to celebrating Screen-Free Week!
