Checkerberry Trail Opening
Join GWRLT for a celebration of the opening of the Checkerberry Trail, connecting Orris Falls Conservation Area with the conservation lands surrounding Mt. Agamenticus and all the way to the York River. The trail passes through 33 acres between Emery's Bridge Road and Bennett Lot Road in South Berwick, protected by conservation easement in 2020 by landowners Sandy Agrafiotis and Carl Phersson. The trail begins a bit up the road from Orris Falls Conservation Area parking lot on Emery's Bridge Road and later continues onto Maine IF&W land before connecting and finishing at the Normal Mills Trailhead on Benett Lot Road.
Join us for a few words, followed by trail tours. No reservations necessary.

Native Plant Fair

In partnership with Healthy Rivers of Ogunquit, GWRLT will be hosting the second annual Native Plant Fair. The fair will showcase examples native plant species to view, attendees will be able to order and purchase their plants, with pick up scheduled for the following week.

Artists! Join us for a morning of painting 9am-1pm, followed by a reception for artists at the farm 1-2pm.
Community members, come and take in the view and watch the artists at work, 9am-1pm.

Join Outreach Coordinator, Brenna Crothers, for a book read-a-loud about the hidden world of vernal pools. Following the book Brenna will guide participants on a vernal pool exploration.

Signs of Spring Scavenger Hunt! |
|
Go on a signs of spring scavenger hunt! Visit a GWRLT preserve and see how many different signs of spring you can find on your walk.
1) Listen for wood frogs or spring peepers. Now is the time to listen. Wood frogs when warm rainfall (above 40 degrees at night) thaws them.
2) Red Maple Tree Buds: Look for a red maple flowers on the tops of trees. Red maples are distinctive in having red flowers that emerge a week or more before the leaves.
3) Listen and look for migrating birds: Spring Migration officially begins in early February and continues through May in Maine. Each species has its own migratory schedule, timed for when its favored food is available.
4) Spring Ephemeral Wildflowers, Spring ephemeral refers to the perennial plants that emerge quickly in the spring and die back to their underground parts after a short growth and reproduction phase.
