Employers/healthcare purchasers have a fiduciary responsibility to participants in their employee benefit plans to require vendor partners to comply with the MHPAEA requiring that mental health substance use disorder benefits are not more restrictive than medical surgical benefits. And while this has been the case for many years, fiduciary duty enforcement is ramping up and serious legal consequences are a growing threat.
In response, the National Alliance, the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value, and a team of subject-matter experts have created a step-by-step no-cost toolkit for employers to share with their vendors to reduce risk and ensure employees and their families are getting the comprehensive healthcare services they need.

By promoting issues affecting the workforce, improved wellbeing can reduce healthcare costs and absenteeism, resulting in cost savings for employers and employees — and healthier happier lives for employees and their families.
In this new monthly feature, the National Alliance will select national health observances related to its work, but there are countless campaigns to serve the unique health and cultural needs of each employer. National Alliance featured observances:
