Urgency Increases for Employers to Ensure Compliance with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Act (MHPAEA)

Employers/healthcare purchasers have a fiduciary responsibility to participants in their employee benefit plans to require vendor partners to comply with the MHPAEA requiring that mental health substance use disorder benefits are not more restrictive than medical surgical benefits. And while this has been the case for many years, fiduciary duty enforcement is ramping up and serious legal consequences are a growing threat.


In response, the National Alliance, the Florida Alliance for Healthcare Value, and a team of subject-matter experts have created a step-by-step no-cost toolkit for employers to share with their vendors to reduce risk and ensure employees and their families are getting the comprehensive healthcare services they need.
