Bolsa Grande High School Students Rank High in Academic Competition

Big congratulations to four exceptional history students from Bolsa Grande High School in Ms. Jaspard’s class! After taking the initiative to research local academic competitions, these motivated scholars rose to the top—winning their qualifying event and earning a spot at the Academic WorldQuest National Competition!

This prestigious competition is the national finale of local WorldQuest events, testing students’ knowledge of international affairs, current events, and critical global issues.

In April, they will represent Bolsa Grande at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., competing against top teams from across the nation. Students will spend three days engaged in high-level academic competition—an exciting opportunity that reflects their dedication, curiosity, and hard work.

We are incredibly proud and can’t wait to see them shine on the national stage!

McGarvin Intermediate Welcomes Families to Campus for Open House

Families, students, and staff came together for a wonderful evening at McGarvin Intermediate School’s Open House!

Classrooms were filled with excitement as students proudly showcased their hard work, projects, and accomplishments. From engaging lessons to creative displays, the event highlighted the dedication of McGarvin’s teachers and the enthusiasm of its students.

Los Amigos High School Hosts a Successful Open House

Los Amigos High School welcomed families, students, and the community for a fantastic Open House!

Guests had the opportunity to explore classrooms, meet dedicated teachers and staff, and experience firsthand the incredible programs and opportunities that make Los Amigos such a special place to learn and grow. From engaging student work to vibrant campus spirit, the evening was a wonderful celebration of all things Lobos!

GGUSD Hosts Snacks with the Superintendent

GGUSD staff enjoyed a wonderful time connecting and celebrating at last week's Snacks with the Superintendent event!

Team members from across the district gathered for a relaxed and festive afternoon filled with conversation, collaboration, and delicious spring-themed cookies. The event provided a great opportunity for staff to mingle with district leadership and strengthen connections across departments.

Also in attendance were Board of Education members, including President Bob Harden, Vice President Lan Nguyen, and Trustee Teri Rocco, who joined the Superintendent in welcoming staff and sharing in the fun.

Events like these highlight GGUSD’s commitment to fostering a positive, connected, and supportive work environment.

Garden Grove Council of PTAs Special Education Committee Hosts First Annual Resource Fair for Families

Recently, Garden Grove Council of PTAs Special Education Committee hosted its first Annual Resource Fair for families. Families had the opportunity to connect with a variety of local community partners, gaining valuable resources and support in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen and Trustee Teri Rocco attended, showing their continued commitment to supporting all students and families. A special thank you to PCO for providing childcare, helping ensure families could fully participate in the event. Kudos to Garden Grove Council of PTAs Special Education Committee on providing this event as part of their new 3-part Special Education series to support the needs of all families.

Evans Elementary Students Participate in Creative Art Lesson with VAPA

GGUSD students are soaring with creativity!

At Evans Elementary, students took part in an engaging art lesson led by our VAPA Department, where they explored the imaginative world of artist Salvador Dalí and brought their inspiration to life through vibrant, one-of-a-kind bird creations.

With bold colors, unique shapes, and plenty of imagination, these young artists showed that there are no limits when it comes to creativity. We love seeing our students express themselves and discover the joy of art at such an early age!

Heritage Computer Science Academy Hosts

Hands-on Family Science Night

GGUSD proudly highlights a night of curiosity, creativity, and connection at Heritage Computer Science Academy’s recent Family Science Night.

Students and their families came together to explore hands-on science activities, interactive experiments, and engaging STEM challenges that sparked excitement and discovery. From coding concepts to real-world problem solving, the event showcased the innovative learning experiences happening every day at Heritage.

Family Science Night not only celebrated student learning, but also strengthened the partnership between school and home—proving that science is even more powerful when explored together.

Morningside Elementary Enjoys a Puppet Show

Oh, the joy of a puppet show!

Morningside Elementary’s youngest learners—TK, Kindergarten, and First Grade students—were all smiles and laughter as they enjoyed a lively retelling of The Three Little Pigs! The hilarious and heartwarming performance is sure to be a highlight of the year for many students.

Thanks to an Arts Teach Grant through Segerstrom Center for the Arts, the talented Noteworthy Puppets brought storytelling to life in the most engaging way. Through a perfect blend of humor, music, and creativity, students learned valuable lessons about perseverance and courage.

For many, this was their very first puppet show—sparking joy, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the arts as a powerful learning experience.

GGUSD Highlights Homegrown Staff in Honor of Our

60th Anniversary Year

From student to community leader—Lan Nguyen’s journey is a powerful reflection of resilience, service, and GGUSD pride.

As part of GGUSD’s “Then vs. Now” campaign celebrating homegrown leaders in honor of our 60th Anniversary, we are proud to highlight Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen. After arriving in the United States as a refugee among the Vietnamese boat people in 1980, Lan began his educational journey in GGUSD as a sophomore at Bolsa Grande High School, graduating in 1983.

He went on to earn a degree in Political Science from UC Riverside and later a Juris Doctor degree from Hastings College of the Law. Returning to Garden Grove as a lawyer, Lan dedicated his career to serving others—advocating for refugees, promoting civic engagement, and supporting human rights.

In 2002, he was elected to the GGUSD Board of Education, where he has served for 24 years, becoming the longest-serving Vietnamese American elected official in the United States. His lifelong connection to Garden Grove and unwavering commitment to the community continue to make a lasting impact.

Join Us at Our Choose Wellness Education & Resource Fair!

Garden Grove Unified School District invites families and community members to its annual Choose Wellness Education & Resource Fair on Wednesday, April 29!

The event will take place at Fitz Intermediate Language Academy and will feature an afternoon and evening full of valuable resources and engaging activities for all ages. From 4:00–5:00 p.m., attendees can explore a resource fair with community partners, followed by informative workshops from 5:05–6:30 p.m., and student performances from 6:35–7:00 p.m.

Families can enjoy food, games, giveaways, wellness resources, and health screenings while learning about important topics like bullying prevention and supporting children’s mental health. Students will also have access to age-appropriate workshops focused on building healthy relationships and being an upstander.

Can’t attend in person? Select workshops will be available via livestream, making it easy for everyone to participate! Interpretation and childcare will also be provided to ensure all families feel welcome and supported.
